We offer a spectrum of campsites from forest to wide open vistas. Each one has its unique charms and beauties. Please look at the photos and descriptions to help you select the site that suits your flavor of camping. Every site features a fire pit and beautiful mountain views. We are asking that you come prepared with a 4wdr or awdr vehicle to the mountains because the ride up is bumpy and can be difficult for low lying cars. Each site allows you to pull your vehicle to the site. The new river is visible from the far reaching open main campsites.
Our Campsites are:
#1 Maple Skyline:
This is our highest elevation campsite. Sunrise and sunset views. This site has a beautiful pair of sugar maple trees that you are able to seek a cool breeze in the hot summer afternoons and still open areas in an retired field for stargazing at night. Metal fire pit also for your outdoor cooking. This site is not near any of our farms animals, so good for your pups to roam and run without distractions if that is desired. Best for ground tents.
#4 Phoenix Vista:
This campsite sits at 3400 ft and have a wonderful in your face view of big phoenix mountain. This site will possibly have one or two of our farms animals exploring about, anything from a small group of our goats, to piglets, to a couple of our lovely majestic Scottish Highland cows. Everyone is calm and peaceful. Ground tents and Rooftop tents are good here.
#2 Sunrise Oak:
Aptly named, you’ll catch the first morning rays at this site. Gorgeous view of the Blue Ridge to the south east. Site has a nice large flat area for multiple tents and vehicles. If you want a sun filled space this site gets lots of it. You will have access to a hike up an old farm road to the top of the mountain where the view changes and could catch the sunset a second time. This site is not near any of our farm's animals, so good for your pups to roam and run without distractions if that is desired. Site good for ground tents, small campers and rooftop tents
#3 Tippidy Top:
The top flat of a peak with long reaching views out to the north. You can catch the sunset over big phoenix mountain also from this site. We find this site to be great for any rooftop tents, vans or small campers. You have a fire pit inside an open forested area with an amazing panoview 5 feet from there. This site has similar views to our phoenix vista site and possibly will have one or two of our farms animals exploring about, anything from a small group of our goats, to piglets, to a couple of our lovely majestic Scottish Highland cows. Everyone is calm and peaceful.

We will make sure you have as much privacy as possible as we enjoy our privacy also. The homestead on the property is off the grid and aiming for sustainability so we are happy to share produced products. Here on the farm we produce Grassfed and NeverGrain Scottish Highland Premium Beef (Ground, Steaks, and Tips), Chicken Eggs (always free ranging, non-gmo and soyfree fed) and our favorite is our season appropriated Wild Crafted Edibles and Medicinals (ask whats in season and we can build you a salad or meal straight from mother earth)
If you are interested in meeting our majestic Scottish Highland calves and bovine please do ask, might be possible a farm tour.
*Please, it is required that you visit and climb the mountain using an all wheel drive or 4wheel drive vehicle since you will be climbing 300 ft to the top and our right of away up is a bit bumpy. If you visit us in a non 4wdr or awdr vehicle you could try the hike up and the walk back to your vehicle to your car is all downhill. If you want to check the weather use the zipcode 28617. We would be happy though if you ask what we think about the upcoming days and will fill you in with our local weather movements on the ground here and forecast (we know better than the weatherman generally!). When you put in your request, include the type of vehicle you will be driving up the mountain and also what type of sleeping arrangements you have, ie ground tents, rooftop or pull behind.
As a guest in our farm you MUST contact us the morning before your arrival with your intentions of arriving the day of our reservation and your estimated time of arrival. If you do not contact us ahead of time before 2pm we will not know if you will be coming or not and could complicate your arrival to camp. The pins locations on our listing's map are marking our meeting place to meet and greet at an acceptable distance and so we can escort you to your campsite. The pins do not mark the campsite.
- Check in: After 2PM
- Check out: Before 12PM
- Cancellation policy: Strict
- On arrival: Meet and greet
- Minimum nights: 1 night
- Accepts bookings: 3 months out
- Response time: Within 6 hours

From the moment we arrived, Jonny’s Mountain top farm far and above exceeded our expectations. Beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and valleys speckled with bright wild flowers took our breath away. I was tent camping with my 10 year old cousin and it was a delight for us both. Chickens (with eggs to spare), cats, horses, piggies, and a dog named Max kept us company the whole time. And Jonny couldn’t have been kinder. The views alone were rewarding but Jonny’s passion and care for his livestock made it all the more special. I’ve stayed at 7 or 8 hipcamp sites around the country and this one was by the best. We will definitely return!

This camp site is incredible! Jonny was so friendly and accommodating, and the views are truly amazing. You really feel like you have your own mountain. We can’t wait to come back!

This site was better than I could have hoped for. Super secluded with a amazing view from the site, and a even better view just a short hike up the mountain. The steep accent to the top was as described but not a big deal at all with the proper vehicle. Highly recommended to purchased the grass fed beef from Johnny as well, it was the best grass fed beef I’ve had to date. Already planning a return trip for a warmer season when we can take advantage of the farm tour!

We had the best time at Top of the World! The views blew us out of the water, and my partner says that he cooked the best meal of his life here. Jon was a fabulous host. Following him up the mountain and rounding the corner to his property was pure elation. We loved visiting with the cows and learning more about Jon's farm. Thank you - we can't wait to come back!
If you’re looking for a unique experience camping on a mountain with stunning views left and right, this is it. The host, Jon, was super friendly and very attentive so you’ll be in good hands in case you ever need something. Be sure to ask him about some of the beef he has to offer! We bought some to take home and they are stellar. Our campsite was called Maple Skyline and it had amazing views of the sunrise and sunset.

It’s hard to put in words how perfect this place is. It exceeded our expectations and was worth every penny. The panoramic views are breathtaking, the campsites are spacious, private, and beautiful. The mountains are so peaceful and serene. We drove over 10 hours and we would do it again! We were so happy with this camping experience. Jon was very good about directions, communication, and making sure we felt at home during our stay. We added meeting the highland cows and it was a wonderful experience. Jon is so passionate and authentic with everything he does on the farm and it really shows through his care and love for the animals and the land they are on. The highlands visited our campsite and hung out with us for awhile! It was such a priceless experience.

We felt like we had our own private mountaintop with great views to the north, west and south. Looking forward to going back with the rest of my family.
Go here now. We camp a lot but are new to Hipcamp. To us, Jon's place is what Hipcamp is for. We used to backpack but don't really have the time or energy for it right now. We are super picky about any campgrounds we stay at and have managed to find a few we would go back to. Every time we do though we would say I'd gladly pay triple to stay where we want, with a great view, and no people. Well this is it. The perfect campsite. Site #1, the highest, is about all you can ask for if you are into primitive camping (ok I wish there was a trout stream :)
Jon is a fantastic host. He provided us with all the information we needed, had great suggestions about places to go in the area, and sells his craft beef he raises on his beautiful farm.
We took daily trips into the cool mountain town of West Jefferson just a few minutes away for supplies. Lots of great places there and everything you need.
I'ts a great base camp for fishing and hiking or mountain biking in the area.
Site #1 has sunset and sunrise views. Lots of birds and you may hear coyotes at night (i think they were and not wolves). Forgot there were that many stars. Keep in mind there is just a firepit so bringing a table is a good idea and maybe something for shade if you need it. Portable camp toilet and solar shower really improved our experience.

Staying here is as close as a slice of Heaven you’ll get. My boyfriend and I stayed at two different sites this past weekend as we camped at the Phoenix Vista and the Maple Skyline as both were so serene and magical. Jon’s directions were very accurate and his warm spirit gave us a great welcome.
Our first night a storm had surrounded us, but Jon was always a text away updating us and offering us safety at lower grounds if need be (thankfully it just missed us). While camping at the Phoenix Vista we were greeted by the sweetest pig Rocky who gave us companionship the entire time. If you’re an animal lover I highly recommend this site as you may be also lucky to spend some time with goats and piglets as well. Each site had a wonderful fire pit and never ending 360° views of mountains. If you are looking for my privacy, the Maple Skyline is a perfect choice as it is the highest campsite and the only thing that surrounded us was circle of fog. No matter the weather, your view will enlighten your perspective from watching a lightning storm and fireflies light up the mountains, to watching the fog creep down the mountain side and to waking up to a beautiful sunrise there really is no place I’d rather be.
At the end of our trip, we bought some grass fed non-GMO home raised beef from Jon and let me tell you it was absolutely delish. We were so sad to leave, but we most definitely will be back. One of the best things was simply talking to Jon as you can tell he is very compassionate about his land, animals and ensuring those to have the best stay possible. Thank you Jon for sharing your land as we will forever be grateful for this experience.
