Description

If there was ever one enveloping adjective to describe Fires Creek Recreational Area, it’d be this: remote. Hidden away within the secluded confines of the area’s like-named backcountry, Fires Creek Recreational Area is sure to spark your inner outdoorsman (or woman). Live up the twenty-five miles of pristine, beguiling hiking trails, then settle back at camp 'n' watch flames dance in front of you—just make sure to put out your campfires before drifting off to sleep for the night.

This is a quiet, lesser known camping area hidden back in the woods. There is a nice little stream with large trout and a bear sanctuary so hopefully an opportunity to safely see some bears.

Late night arrival at Fires Creek for a quiet stay on the way to kayaking the Nantahala River.
