Scenic and remote campsite

This campsite is in a beautiful, secluded valley with picturesque creeks and waterfalls all around, deep in a southern Appalachian forest. It is a unique campsite, much more scenic than you would get at most state parks or KOA-type campgrounds (albeit there is only a porta-potty and no showers). There is a neighboring site, to #12, but you have plenty of room. The hosts were accommodating and responsive. A couple of things to be aware of though. The description said "Picnic Table Available," but there was no table when we went. Luckily someone in our group brought a card table. Also, the description and signs near the camp warn that your vehicle should be 4WD, and that should be heeded. I didn't notice the 4WD notice in the site ad but saw it in the email confirmation, so I messaged the owner to see if my 2WD SUV could handle the roads, and he said he thought I would be fine because they had improved the roads. The first 10 minutes of dirt roads from Hwy 19 weren't too bad, but once you turn onto the final road to the Sanctuary, the roads for the next 10 minutes were often very steep and slippery and really challenged my vehicle (esp going up hill), even though there was no rain for the three days we were there. I worry if it had rained and the roads were muddy, my SUV would have gotten spun out and gotten stuck on the steep hills, and I was far from cell phone range so it could have been a predicament. Very cool campsite, but just be prepared.

If your looking for a beautiful peaceful getaway this is the place for you. The site (12) was remote and a private just as described. If you like to hike the goat trail will challenge you, it was a doozy but the waterfall at the end was worth the effort.

The other reviews are pretty accurate, these are nice campsites in a beautiful valley. The only things that I hadn't seen in other reviews was how nice it is to go to sleep to the sound of the water running nearby and that there isn't any cell service down in the valley. We had just enough to get us to the mailbox with the sign in and after that it's all following the hand drawn map. The mountain goat trail was exactly that, and once you got to the waterfall, the trail markers seemed to disappear. Definitely not a quick and easy trail like we thought. Overall, we really liked our time at this campsite!

This place is amazing. Everything you wanted in a camping trip, secluded, plenary of space, waterfalls, away from WiFi, technology, and unplugging from the world. I haven’t slept that good in ages. It has a lasting effect afterwards.

We were looking for a spot to camp at the smoky mountains, and decided it was too crowded and luckily found this spot! So thankful we did. It was just the adventure we wanted. Enjoyed unplugging, and the creek was so so beautiful. The trail to the waterfall was super fun, and we enjoyed just being down in the mountains right by the creek. I miss falling asleep to the sound of the water, and seeing the beautiful night sky already-thanks so much for allowing us to stay!

David was a great host and the site was just what we were looking for. The falls are even more impressive in person. Hopefully we can return again in the summer.

The site was as advertised. Secluded and tucked up right next to a mountain feed river? Not a drive most want to take even if pulling a small size trailer or popup tent, but if you have 4wheel drive it worth it. The local trails are not maintained and rugged, recommend not walking.
