A simply MAGICAL place you MUST visit.
Both sites available are breathtakingly beautiful whether you prefer mountain tops or bottom of waterfalls. I had 2 elk visit the Eagles Nest while unpacking my car to stay in the teepee - a beautiful experience to see such creatures in the wild yet so close to camp.
Bring swim shoes if you plan on taking a dip in the swimming holes and splash around in the waterfalls surrounding the mountains here. The Cherokee Reservation is right down the road - visit, take in the culture, and explore!
Beautiful place to stay and friendly helpful owner. Make sure that you have a four wheel drive vehicle if you camp here. If you decide to go two wheel the owner will help tow you up the mountain. Easy decline, steep rocky path up to leave camp site. No cell service but there is a land line at the small brown cabin. If you are allergic to bees make sure you have an epi pen because there are plenty of yellow jackets there.
Truly beautiful. This place was well worth the trek and I loved being able to fall asleep to the sound of the water. The drive is really pretty, just make sure to have a vehicle that can handle the off-road.
Amazingly private with a great adventure attached to get in and out! Must have AWD or 4WD and it’s worth it! Beautiful swimming hole and waterfalls. Host was amazing and very helpful!
Beautiful and secluded. Tricky to get to and the instructions could be made clearer...we started seeing no trespassing signs after we had gone down the road for quite a while and werent sure what to do next as there were no distances explained nor were there any signs once we got onto the last road (save for the one right as you get to the sanctuary). The road is narrow and tricky and I can see why all wheel drive or 4WD is required. All that being said, this was one of the most private and peaceful spots we have ever camped at. With rocky falls on one side and a creek on the other (which we camped right next to!) it was very relaxing and quiet. This is very primitive camping and somewhat of a tedious drive so be sure that have everything you need, including firewood, already packed. While there were compost toilets, the little tent it was in was filthy and had spiders so we had to have a makeshift bathroom. I loved that we could pick pretty much any spot to camp and it wasnt "commercialized camping". Loved it, and would also love to come back in the warmer months and take advantage of the swimming hole.
