A simply MAGICAL place you MUST visit.
Both sites available are breathtakingly beautiful whether you prefer mountain tops or bottom of waterfalls. I had 2 elk visit the Eagles Nest while unpacking my car to stay in the teepee - a beautiful experience to see such creatures in the wild yet so close to camp.
Bring swim shoes if you plan on taking a dip in the swimming holes and splash around in the waterfalls surrounding the mountains here. The Cherokee Reservation is right down the road - visit, take in the culture, and explore!
Beautiful and secluded. Tricky to get to and the instructions could be made clearer...we started seeing no trespassing signs after we had gone down the road for quite a while and werent sure what to do next as there were no distances explained nor were there any signs once we got onto the last road (save for the one right as you get to the sanctuary). The road is narrow and tricky and I can see why all wheel drive or 4WD is required. All that being said, this was one of the most private and peaceful spots we have ever camped at. With rocky falls on one side and a creek on the other (which we camped right next to!) it was very relaxing and quiet. This is very primitive camping and somewhat of a tedious drive so be sure that have everything you need, including firewood, already packed. While there were compost toilets, the little tent it was in was filthy and had spiders so we had to have a makeshift bathroom. I loved that we could pick pretty much any spot to camp and it wasnt "commercialized camping". Loved it, and would also love to come back in the warmer months and take advantage of the swimming hole.
Beautiful, peaceful campsite
This campsite was awesome! Tucked way down a mountain with nothing but the sound of waterfalls & mtn streams all around you! So much to explore that we could’ve stayed for days without leaving! It felt like I was in a rainforest because the sun never really gets thru the tree tops & everything stays damp because of waterfall mist all around you & so much green moss, it was just absolutely enchanting! It’s definitely cooler down there - with Dollywood being in the 90’s the day before, it was a nice break from the heat! You do need high clearance on your vehicle to get here as cars may bottom out on jagged rocks, but most suv’s will have no problem! Larger trucks may have difficulty maneuvering down there as some parts of the road zig zag with very little turning space. You literally have to make a narrow u-turn to get up some parts of the road, but that’s also what makes this place so secluded yet adventurous! Host was great & accommodating! The only site with cell service is the teepee, so screenshots of map may be useful! It gets confusing with the no trespassing signs, but keep going on main reservation road all the way down, until you see sign for waterfall pointing up steep zig-zagged road to right, which you want to take left lower road down to sites 3-8. Site 6 is up that waterfall road, but very hard to turn around so better to walk it rather than drive it! If all the sites are booked, you may get crowded quick, however there are plenty of places to explore in solitude! This was perfect place for nature lovers and I felt safer knowing if bad weather came, I could upgrade to a cabin - if available! Will definitely be back!
GO HERE! I cannot recommend this campsite enough! I just spent my birthday lurking around the trees with my sister and our best pups and we collectively fell in love. My wild girl was especially stoked on all the water she could romp in. ^^ I work as a manager and barista so this is exactly what I needed to disconnect from everything that consumes me regularly. I feel refreshed but also sad I had to come back to Florida so quickly (but also grateful because I forgot pants and I was an actual ice cube by nightfall.) No service, which for me was a blessing but for my 21 year old sister a death sentence so keep that in mind. Also if you lack patience with getting lost you may want to screenshot your gps or something cause it will no longer be any help to you. Honestly the only complaint would be to rewrite the names of the roads on their map. Oh! Something that prevented us from finding our campsite right away and had us lost for at least an hour was the "no trespassing" signs everywhere-yeah, just trespass because once I let my sister drive with her total lack of respect for signs did we finally find our campsite! hahah We did have issues with other campers as we arrived to our site number claiming it was "first come - first serve" on the sites which was fine but they also took our wood we paid for. Thank you to our lovely host for taking care of that and for sharing such a dream experience with us. <3
Wow! hidden ferngully oasis!
Wow... this place is AMAZING. Literally worth the bumpy trek down. It's a secret oasis that feels like you stepped into Ferngully! There were 2 other groups camping near us but the campsites were so private you felt like you had the entire place to yourself. I HIGHLY recommend staying here. No phone service so we weren't able to check-in and when we arrived, we couldn't find anyone when we grabbed the map. We also purchased firewood but that was never delivered?
Overall, we loved the swimholes, waterfalls, hikes, and little curated touches throughout the property. Will definitely go back!
Beautiful place to stay and friendly helpful owner. Make sure that you have a four wheel drive vehicle if you camp here. If you decide to go two wheel the owner will help tow you up the mountain. Easy decline, steep rocky path up to leave camp site. No cell service but there is a land line at the small brown cabin. If you are allergic to bees make sure you have an epi pen because there are plenty of yellow jackets there.
Truly beautiful. This place was well worth the trek and I loved being able to fall asleep to the sound of the water. The drive is really pretty, just make sure to have a vehicle that can handle the off-road.
Amazingly private with a great adventure attached to get in and out! Must have AWD or 4WD and it’s worth it! Beautiful swimming hole and waterfalls. Host was amazing and very helpful!
