Voted Best View in Western North Carolina by Hipcamp Scouts and Hipcampers ! Top ten in the US of all Hipcamp sites. Nearly 360 Degree Views on a clear ridge with great visibility. Catch both the sunrise and the sunset. On foggy morning the mist rolls right over the ridge top.

Pet friendly, no leash needed as long as you stay on the property. It's three camp sites total.  Your four footed friends can run free.

Extremely private, most days you have the mountaintop all to your self. The rest of the mountain is privately held but there are no houses or other sites. Great "light pollution free" sky for star gazing, no street or city lights.  Services are limited,  swimming pool, restrooms and general store just a short drive away and operated by a third party.(open May through Nov.)  There is a five dollar fee for pool/shower access payable to the owner on site. Hipcamp fee does not include pool/shower. Good vehicle clearance suggested for drive to the top.

This is a two acre site that can accommodate a maximum of three camper groups. There are trees and brush separating the three sites so plenty of privacy. Plenty of firewood, just bring a handsaw. Site 1 is surrounded by trees, and it is the first spot you come to on the left, Site 2 is on the edge of the tree line and Site 3 is in the open field. (see site map & pictures) The sites are clearly numbered. Sites can be selected at time of booking, for sites 1 through 3.  IMPORTANT  Hipcampers on site 3 stay at least 50 feet to the left of the wooden cross in the field. The right side of the field with the cross is owned by a different party, please respect their space. Do not move the picnic tables. Enjoy the view and your stay !!

Rocky Fork State Park Tn. is just a short drive away for some great additional hiking swimming and fishing.

Oh my gosh. This is hands-down one of the best places I've ever camped in my life.

From Asheville it's about a 45 minute drive but it's more than worth it. Most of the miles are highway miles until you get to the last little bit. The road leading to the site has a steep uphill section and is rocky but we had no problem getting there in our 4-Runner. As you climb the hill the view starts to open up and then as you make the last turn to Peter's place you are presented with the most incredible 360 degree view of western North Carolina and her mountains. We got there with plenty of daylight left and had the pleasure of watching the sunset and the mountains turn the most beautiful shades of blue, the sky a gorgeous rose.

The best part is that we had the place all to ourselves. It reminded us a little bit of Max Patch only there weren't any crowds. We had a number of places to choose from when deciding where to pitch our tent. We eventually decided upon a place right smack dab in the middle of the site. Peter brought a fire pit and some wood for us so we set that up a little ways away from our tent and settled in...beers, wine, some leftovers we brought and the warm glow of a fire. Life couldn't have been any better. It was literally a perfect moment. I planned on laying around reading my book but the view was so good that I pretty quickly turned into a camera nerd and kept moving around taking pictures.

Oh and of course our dog of course made the trek with us and she had a blast roaming around off-leash. I swear she loves Hipcamp just ask much as we do...

I honestly didn't want to write this review because I wanted to selfishly keep it to myself but that's not what this is about. These kinds of sites are meant for sharing - really this is a true gem of a site. Caroline and I already have plans to go back!

Take my word for it and book Haw Ridge. You won't regret it.

This was a fantastic site that we will definitely be returning to! We picked a weekend with unfortunate weather and were not able to appreciate the view due to fog and rain, but the campsite itself and host alone are enough to be bringing us back to this site in the future!

Peter is incredibly accommodating through the booking process and throughout your stay! He met us upon arrival to show us the way to the site and even had a canopy, tent pad, chairs, and lantern set up upon arrival with a fire started- it truly made our first night so welcoming!

There are showers, bathrooms, and a pool just a short drive up the road - no inconvenience at all.

There is so much to do in the surrounding area as well - we hiked and kayaked during our time there.

My only advice: double and triple check the weather - and then book this site! Peter and the campsite will not disappoint! :)

Road to campsite is in terrible condition. I cant stress enough the need for a 4WD vehicle... and it will still be slow going. Once we got to the top we couldnt figure out where we were supposed to be able to camp. Campsite #2 is big enough for a tiny fire pit, but no where remotely flat or clear enough to put down a 2 person tent. We had friends with us who had to set up their tents on the roadside. On top of all that, several people came up on 4 wheelers to ride and hang out. Not a real big deal, but again, we had two tents right off the side of the road, so it was a nuisance. I would not recommend this campsite unless you rent all 3 sites and dont plan on leaving or exploring anything. Major disappointment!

I concur with most reviews, this is a great location!

About the drive up - I have a FWD Mitsubishi Outlander (Crossover body), and so I was nervous after reading so many reviews saying a 4WD or AWD was necessary. Honestly, as long you are an experienced and confident driver, the ride up isn't that bad with a FWD - just be sure you have some ground clearance and maintain a little speed when going up.

This property is absolutely stunning. Both sunrise and sunset provided breathtaking lighting and color sweeping over the mountains. Peter was readily available to answer any questions via text if we needed him which we appreciated. His written directions here on hipcamp were super helpful. I’m already planning and cannot wait for my next visit!

We stayed here two nights and will definitely come back.

The site itself is beautiful. There is a big open field with a fire pit and a chair with plenty of room to set up camp. The road up it is steep and rocky, but should be passable for most cars. It was fine for my Forester and another group had a sedan up there.

I will note that there Peter rents three campsites on this lot, so it's not as isolated as I might have hoped. We shared the lot with one other group our first night, but they were very friendly and there was plenty of room for all of us. The second night we had the spot all to ourselves.

Sunset and sunrise were beautiful and the campsite is convenient as a base camp -there are tons of good hikes nearby.

This spot is amazing! The views are perfect with almost a full 360 view of the surrounding mountains. Quiet and private, albeit another couple shared the space. There was plenty of space for two groups. You MUST have a high clearance vehicle to get to this spot, and it’d be wise to get there before sundown. It’s not an easy drive up or down, but the views make it 100% worth it.

Haw Ridge was hands down the best place I have ever camped. Panoramic views of the mountains, pristine sunset/sunrise views, and plenty of privacy.

I cannot wait to camp here again. Thanks Peter!
