We are open during the Covid19 pandemic recovery.  We have paper towels, TP, sanitary wipes, garbage bags, fire-starters and a lighter.  We ask that you bring firewood and bottled water with you and wear a mask if you run local errands.

This quiet private campsite is on a meadow at the edge of the woods near a paved road.   The site includes space for 2 vehicles plus plus 2-3 tents and common area near a fire pit table and basic deck.  Or bring your pull-in trailer!  Our campsite fills a semicircle between the road and 3' bamboo stakes near the wood's edge.   On a clear night you will see the moon and many stars.   Local traffic only.  We are in a friendly rural neighborhood where people will wave or stop by to say hello, at a safe distance, and they don't trespass or steal things.

The nearby New River is slow-moving and shallow, perfect for tubes or kayaks. Bikers enjoy riding the 5 miles along the Scenic Byway, called Railroad Grade Road, to the tiny town of Todd.   Three of our favorite businesses are there:  River Girl Fishing for bikes, kayaks, inner tubes, maps and fishing gear; Todd Mercantile which has a great bakery and local artists' merchandise; and Todd General Store.

When you visit West Jefferson, we recommend Black Jack's for burgers, Hotel Tavern for cocktails, and Ashe County Cheese.  West Jefferson is one of the fastest growing towns in the mountains for good reason.   It has parking and lots of great restaurants, breweries, coffee shops, and community spirit.  The locals think it's overrun with outsiders.

Boone is a traffic nightmare that we always avoid.  Blowing Rock is a delightful, scenic and walk-able town, but good luck finding parking.   Lansing, way up in the NW corner of Ashe County, is about two blocks long and a delight on a creeper trail greenway.

Don't worry if your phone goes on extended network.  Mine works fine out there.  But one point of your trip is to go off the grid and bond with nature.  We have you covered.  We have a notebook of "where to go" and "what to do" listings and maps in our supply bin.  Take it in your car while you are local, wipe the laminated pages with our cleaning wipes, and leave it behind when you check out.

Hiking:  You may walk down the paved road to the river, but there is no hiking permitted from the campsite property until we develop a cabin and trail.   It is private property posted with No Trespassing signs.

But here's the great thing for hikers:  we are just 12 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway.  There is a variety of superb hiking within a 30-45 minute drive at Mount Jefferson State Park, Linville Falls, Grandfather Mountain, and at Deep Gap or Glendale Springs on the Blue Ridge Parkway.  (Our second favorite place to camp is Doughton Park on BRP near Sparta.  Great ridge and ravine hiking right from your campsite in a nice campground.)

Most of these very popular recreation areas have no car or RV camping on-site, and the others are too crowded to practice social distancing.   Our campsite has no other campers except you!

Please enjoy it when you visit.

Leslie was a fantastic host - She helped us coordinate a quick trip to the mountains and was very quick to answer questions and help us navigate our time in Todd. The campsite was close to the local rivers and within a 30 min drive to Boone and the Blue Ridge Parkway and many other cool parks. We enjoyed the remoteness of this property and neighbors - the folks who drive by and saw us were very kind.

The tent site is about 50 yards away from a quiet mountain road so you may have a random car drive by at night but other then that it was very quiet and peaceful. With the tent site so close to the road it would be nice to have a small gate to make the property feel more private.

The site was as advertised. A small grass clearing with a pit toilet and fire pit. It was a bit closer to the road and farther from the creek than expected, but it was a good spot to set up my rooftop tent for the night. The host, Leslie, was very responsive when we were trying to find the place

In a rural area, close to the road but private enough. Read the directions to the site very carefully. The entrance is hard to spot in the growing season. The owner provided some nice add-ons in the blue barrel.

Pretty nice spot. Parked the van at an angle to add some screen from the road, though there is not much traffic. Very quiet at night and close to the river. Watch out for poison ivy.

This site was perfect, and exactly as described. Very private and enjoyable, minimal traffic nearby but everyone is friendly and respectful of your privacy. Plenty of space to set up tents, and the latrine was well maintained and clean. I definitly plan on camping here again!
