Few words describe how friendly Stephen and Kelly are as host. They repeatedly went out of their way to ensure that our friends made it to the camping areas. Gave advice on trails, accommodated early arrivals and late departures, additional guest and cancellations. It's hard to believe, but all of this occurred over the duration of our stay and BackRhodesRanch handle it with ease. The camping site is really nice. The river percolates gentle behind you and the degree of privacy cannot be matched. Plenty of space to accommodate your group. Just ask Stephen or Kelly and see what southern hospitality looks like in the modern world.
Beautiful spot! Came by truck. Might be a difficult spot for a small sedan but worth it! Conveniently located, but feels like your own little world by the river. Stephen is super helpful!
A great secluded spot right on the French Broad River. You could set up a large group of tents in the grove of trees and have plenty of room, or just have it all to yourself. The hosts are incredibly nice, friendly and accommodating. Dogs are allowed and can be off leash (as long as they don’t chase the horses) without worry. Maybe 10 mins to DuPont and 20 to Pisgah.

Good land with lots of site options. it’ll take you a minute to drive down to the sites after entering the property, but worth it. There were lots of mosquitos so bring the bug spray.

Once you feel like you’ve gone to the middle of nowhere, turn left, drive around the corn fields, right then left, more fields, and you’ll eventually get to camp! Steve was great host and quick to respond to any questions. He even came down to the campsite later to introduce himself since he had not been able to greet me in person (no problem, as his wife was able to guide me to the site). It was very secluded yet close to Hendersonville, Brevard, Pisgah, and even Asheville is a short drive away if you need to get out of camp for a bit. Bring bug spray as the mosquitoes this time of year are hungry, but the combination of a nice breeze, campfire, and Deet seemed to do the trick!
Great property but not for everyone
The property was beautiful - do not get me wrong! Host was amazing! I like to be very honest about this- there are a ton of mosquitoes, a ton! It is on a beautiful river which is not safe for younger children- my 8 year old was not allowed near it. Also, for those who are looking for the quiet primitive spot, this has a loud pump from a sewer station located down river- you can hear it all night. Again, not an issue for some, but was a very large issue for us.
Camped on the creek. Stephen and his wife were great hosts. Great location to Pisgah National Forest! We will be back!
Stephen is a very gracious and hospitable host! He was kind enough to give us a tour of his farm!
This was a very nice site and we enjoyed our time here. The host was friendly and the scenery was beautiful. However, the way the listing made it seem was that we would be pretty far away from other campers and that our site would have its own outhouse, which wasn't the case; we were hoping for a little more privacy for our group. Additionally, we found that this location was listed on other websites with differing descriptions; I would recommend more detailed clarification for what we're getting out of the site, and how close we'll be to strangers.
If you are fine with other groups in close proximity then this is a great spot right up against the river, just be sure to bring a lot of bug spray--mosquitos are everywhere.
