Camp on the Esopus Creek in the Big Indian-Oliverea Valley surrounded by seven 3500' Catskill High Peaks including Slide Mountain, the tallest in the Catskills.

Our private camp is situated on 100 acres of land in the middle of the Catskill State Park. The site is bordered by Forever Wild Forest and is minutes from hiking trailheads to Balsam, Giant Ledge, Panther, Big Indian and Slide Mountain, the Catskills tallest at 4180 ft.

You can walk to a swimming hole on a winding path through a wildflower meadow blazed with rock cairns along a half mile of private waterfront.   Try your luck at catching some wild Brook Trout on the world famous Esopus Creek!

The camp has several tent sites and fire rings, a bunkhouse, and a leanto for day use. Camp table and cook pit are covered from the elements. The main tent includes 4" thick self-inflating Therm-a-rest MondoKing 3D XXL insulated mats for luxurious comfort rather than the cold and bouncy Coleman air mattresses supplied by most other camp sites.

Open WiFi is available at the Campkeeper home a short woods walk away. Seasoned bundled 16" firewood is available by honor box cash payment a few doors up on Brown rd adjacent to the camp entry road.

Ask about the extras I have including:

-Setting up a 12-14 piece firestack for when you arrive that will be full of kindling and covered so that you can just light it when you arrive. $25.00

-I have several tents available including a large 5 person Eureka! Copper Canyon tent for $15.00, and 4 two person backpacking tents (Eureka! Timberline, Eureka! Prism, 2 Gazelle tents, and Moss Starlet tent) for $10.00 each.

-I have 4 comfortable 2" thick Therm-a-rest Camprest foam and air mattresses for $8.00 each.

Pierre's property is undeniably beautiful, with the creek just a few feet from your tent and endless woods to explore. The accommodations he provides are wonderful, and made the experience easy and relaxing. My group had a really nice time. The only thing I would mention is you're quite close to the owner's actual home, and there was another camper there the night we stayed that we were told about the day before, so it wasn't as private as we had imagined.

Sorry the camper didn't feel as private as she might have wished but my friend who setup his tent was far away from the camp. He wasn't "another" HipCamp camper. This was a rare situation where an old friend was traveling through and asked if he could pitch his tent for one night. I told him he could and he was to stay away as much as he could from the site so as to not disturb the campers. As for the proximity to our home, 150 yards through the woods isn't that close. It is out of sight from the camp and is something that is likely quite common for waterfront sites. Nonetheless, it was still a pleasure to host the campers at our site and hope the young lady had a good birthday celebration. She and her friends are welcome to come back anytime.

Pierre was a great host and the campsite was outstanding. It was an amenity-laden paradise for those looking for a more private group camping site. Overall, my group had an excellent experience here and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to others.

Big thanks to Pierre. His property is a wonderful place to come with a group and camp-- to be amongst the flowing creek, the birds and the warmth of the fire.

We loved staying at Pierre's site! He was so helpful and greeted us on arrival, despite coming in late at night. The site was beautiful, clean, and I am still dreaming of that fresh creek water. We wanted a location that was close to various hikes - this one was 15 minutes from Kaaterskills Falls and 45 minutes or so from the Giant Ledge. I highly recommend choosing this site!

Thanks for the kind review. For clarity though, for those reading this review, the times to the hikes are the opposite. It's 15 minutes to Giant Ledge and about 45 minutes to Kaaterskill Falls! Either way though, there are dozens of hikes within the hour. :-)
