THE INVITATION “You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden. … Just so, your light must shine before others… (Mt. 5:14,16) In 1974, Paul Roman received an invitation from his friend, Bill Aiken, to “climb a mountain.” At the top, he saw one hundred acres of virgin Adirondack forest, and hung a medal of St. Benedict on a beam of a sagging barn. Upon coming down the mountain, Paul shared the news of his recent discovery with his friends, John Kerwin and Michael Neaton. These two had recently been granted permission to establish a monastic community where they could lead a life of contemplation, hospitality, work, and service. This SACRED MOUNTAINTOP made for an ideal permanent site and the foundation to a community set apart from the world. “You are not of the world … I chose you out of the world.” (Mt. 15:19) Following construction of the house in 1979, Howard Hubbard dedicated the building, grounds and community as The Priory. While the community sought contemplation and the living out of their call as monastics, people began to come for common prayer and times of public worship with the monks. As the friends of the monks grew in numbers, the reputation of the Priory also grew. In time, the focus of the community began to shift to establishing a retreat house for all peoples. “Come away with me. Let us go alone to a quiet place and rest for a while.” (Mk.6:31) Presently, under the leadership of Dustin and Lanni, The Priory hosts and listens to all who come to its doors. They are environmentalists who seek to preserve and nurture the land that surrounds them. We offer overnight retreats, weekend workshops, and full and half-day programs. We also host groups who want a place to hold their own retreats and gatherings, and individuals who are seeking a time of solitude and prayer. The house and grounds are places that cultivate stillness and stability amidst an ever-changing world.

Field of Dreams
I enjoyed staying a night at Dustin and Lanni’s place. Dustin was kind in providing some fresh water from their well, and also helping me to get a fire going in the fire pit at the campsite. Extra, potable water was available as I needed. They also have a very nice, new outhouse! I really appreciated it, and because it’s what I believe is a “compost toilet” I hope it will stay just as clean for times to come! I sure appreciated the clean outhouse, and the fact that it was actually large enough to turn around in, plenty of space if you had to change clothes, etc. There were multiple trails to walk on the property, I was told, but during my short stay I sadly did not get a chance to check them out, instead I chose to rest and relax at the campsite. Hopefully they will expand to make more campsites in the future and that I’ll be able to stay here again when I’m in the area, and can check the trails out then! I liked the property. The directions were accurate and the place was easy to find. Overall a good experience, I would recommend! Thanks for the camp spot, Dustin and Lanni! Take care. P.s this was my first time using Hipcamp and so far, so good! Based off of this experience I wouldn’t hesitate to use Hipcamp again!

Field of Dreams
My friend and I stayed 2 nights at "The Field of Dreams" and it was that and more. Dustin and Lanni were very generous and friendly hosts. During our weekend stay it rained some and they helped us with the fires, offered access to their private hiking trails and walking meditation area-- not to mention the wonderful advice and recommendations about the area. A beautiful property and family. We hope to return soon.

Field of Dreams
The Field of Dreams is truly just that - a dream of a camping spot! Your host, Dustin, has put time and care into making sure that there are basic amenities available for campers...a fire pit, jug of well water, plenty of seating, brand new outhouse and more. Not to mention, there is TONS of space to roam on the property - including walking trails and the lovely labyrinth area (where we set up our yoga mats for a relaxing afternoon of unwinding!). There are loads of hiking trails, lakes and more within driving distance nearby, so if you're looking for a proper Adirondack getaway, this is the perfect place!

Field of Dreams
Dustin and Lanni have a stunning plot of land that provides campers with access to well maintained and low traffic trails, a clean outhouse, drinking water from their home and many options as to where you would like to set up camp. It was perfect for our stay because of the privacy, but still having the convenience of a firepit, chairs, firewood and knowing that the center of town wasn’t too far away had we forgotten anything. Dustin and Lanni were great hosts, having everything ready when we arrived, having a map of the trails and recommendations for food in nearby towns. We would love to spend the weekend again!
