Woah! This place has it all. Gorgeous property with amazing views, lakeside and forest camping with friendly faces to greet you and show you around. We opt for lakeside of course and it didn't disappoint.
There is something really special about this place! A place for every type of camper; camp on the water, in the woods, or atop a grassy hill for views. You can be right in close to everthing or there are also more secluded sights.
So much to do and see, this is not your average campground. Hiking, fishing, biking, swimming, swinging, art installations, magically lit woods at night, & occasional live music. If you don't go for the land, go for the people. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming! For 2020 summer there has been Taste of Heron farm fresh meals every Saturday. And you can buy some of their products to take home with you at the farm store. Land a bathrooms are clean. Very fairly priced, and check-in/out is hassle free. Five stars!
Had a wonderful time camping at The Great Heron. We were in the area for the Wild America Festival at Panama Rocks and found the perfect spot! There were a lot of people everywhere we went in the greater Chautauqua area, but we were tucked away and secluded in the woods all on our own. We felt like we found the most private and special place to camp. They also have a lovely pond where you can swim or kayak. The Great Heron hosts many festivals throughout the year and it gives camping an interesting flair to camp on festival grounds. Definitely check out the farm store and bring som extra money to stock up on happy animal products, shiitakes, honey, and maple syrup!
This was our first hipcamp experience and wow! We were impressed. Traveling with a nine month old we were very happy to find the heron as the staff was taking precautions (masks, etc)that made us feel very safe. In addition we found this place on our drive and realized we were just a few minutes away booking about 15 minutes before we showed up. The staff was so accommodating and friendly and we had a beautiful spot to camp. We only wish we could have stayed longer! We will be back soon!
Shh don’t tell too many people about this little gem. You’ll want to keep coming back here! The property is a lovely sprawling space that allowed for exploring and plenty of walking trails. We discovered that due to the pandemic, they’re shifting focus a bit from an annual music festival to camping. This property lends itself to many different camping opportunities. We liked having the small beach so close to our campsite. Lots of room so that allows for privacy if you don’t want to mingle. Really liked their trash and recycling efforts and that spigots were labeled “safe to drink” when it came to water. Overall, impressed by the Heron’s efforts and this will only become better as they navigate the camping routine.
Wow! What a magical getaway weekend. The property was golden fields, mushroom nooks & bright artwork. The host Christine was so attentive and kind.
We would absolutely stay again!
Great place for our family of 4 for a weekend camping trip! We were able to have our pick
of tent sites nicely nestled in the forest. Had plenty of privacy. Just a short walk from facilities and handy access to firewood.
Amazing spot! Saw many friendly Amish on my way, had a whole grassy nook to myself, helped harvest shiitake mushrooms, and slept well! Great little organic farm shop and very friendly hosts! Don’t miss it!

We had a great weekend!! The Heron was full of cool surprises. Art in the woods, fun trails, wonderful hosts willing to share their space. Time with the cows, the mushrooms...The weather wasn’t the best but the environment that surrounded us made it so worth while. Thank you for an amazing few days!! We’ll definitely be back!
