Camping in Klepht Hideout was an experience that will stay with me forever because it offers a little green escape from everything. Being in the middle of the woods you feel secluded but safe to know just a couple of minutes away you'll find a town with a grocery store and all the amenities you need. The camp ground was beautiful with vibrant leafs all around, a stream, and a perfect space to set a tent and build a fire. Everything there is so picturesque so be ready with your cameras because it's hard not to try to get pictures of everything. It also offered many trails to take hikes and explore the best of nature. It's a quiet and perfect space to find a little peace and quiet away from the city.
This campsite exceeded our expectations. Although we had to leave early because of inclement weather, we were able to experience the beauty and tranquility that is Klepht Hideout.
Demetri made it very easy for us to park and set up camp in his little oasis. The pond offered refreshing relief from the heat with the mountains serving as the perfect backdrop. I would highly recommend this dog friendly, private site to anyone looking for a peaceful+unique experience.
This site was gorgeous, remote, delightfully wild. Right on a creek that is apparently swimmable (it was pouring rain so we didn't sample) it feels wooded and gorgeous. Dimitry let us fill up our water bottles at his house, which was nice since the spot has no bathrooms or running water. Luckily everyone was very nice and respectful. Also, just a note that there is no picnic table or benches or firepit - so its a bit wild! Enjoy.
Demetri is a wonderful host who has a great piece of land. The little swimming hole was much needed for the heat, and theres a great spot to make a fire that overlooks it, allowing someone to cook up some food while still being close to he rest of the campers in their group. A great place to stay if you want to go out and explore the area, wether that be the surrounding towns or mountains. Also a great 'starter' camp-grounds, as you feel secluded, but are still very close to civilization and a bunch of little towns.
We couldn't get in touch with Demetri all day...we ended up finding a flat patch in his backyard and setting up camp there. Demetri came by the camp at 9 PM way after sundown and once our tent was up. He had thought we were coming in at night despite my several texts/emails stating otherwise. Overall, we missed the camp ground with the swimming hole as we couldn't find it ourselves. Had a great time nonetheless--his property is beautiful, but could have camped in my own backyard and saved 2 hours driving...
We were disappointed overall because we came to see the camp site but just got lost and frustrated instead. But Demetri was incredibly sweet and kind and offered to show us the camp site the next morning, we were just in a rush to leave in the AM.
If you go, BE SURE TO GET CONFIRMATION OF YOUR ARRIVAL FROM THE HOST (apparently he likes email more than text).
