Old Hellebergh is named after the mountain on which the campsites are located, originally named by the dutch settlers, Hellebergh means clear or bright mountains. Pitch your tent anywhere on 50 acres of undeveloped land, that includes vistas of 3 states(NY, Mass and Vt) and a beautiful terraces waterfall that is over 70' tall! The property has much to explore with its 2 seasonal creeks, a bridge, hard and soft wood forests and its many clearings and old paths and trails. Also your proximity to other points of interest gives you a great landing spot to branch out and explore the many things the area has to offer. Including the very quaint small town of Altamont with its fairgrounds(make sure to check their schedule for what event or concert they may be hosting), small shops, and restaurants. Thatcher state park is only minutes away with almost 2,500 acres to explore and one of my personal favorite trail systems is just 2 minutes up the road. Also near by are two lakes, Thompsons lake which includes a beach and state run facilities, and Warners lake with its restaurant Maple On The Lake, complete with a newly renovated outside deck, its own ice cream shack lake side of course and its own freshly brewed beer. Within 15 minutes you can reach over 8 state run or conservation operated wildlife preserves and sanctuaries with lakes, creeks, waterfalls, beautiful vistas and swimming holes just begging to be checked out!
Please note the property is a work in progress and will continued to be improved including cleaned up, more land cleared, farmed and eventually cabins, barns and other buildings built.
