Escape the city and find yourself in this off-grid hillside cabin with a deck overlooking the Taconic mountain range. Wander through field and forest, and cool off in the nearby stream. The cabin has two rooms, and there is a kids playground and tire swing making this an appropriate family camping getaway. The affiliated tent platform (separate listing) makes group camping possible, as well (book both for absolute privacy). There is a solar panel providing indoor lights and phone charging capabilities, a fire pit with a grill, and a simple array of pots, dishes, and utensils. There is a spring-fed 15 gallon reservoir of potable water that will slowly refill as well.
Though not far off the road, there is very little car traffic, and the surroundings are very peaceful. The din of the running stream is a constant, while the sounds of coyotes and owls can be heard at night. As the name indicates, the east-facing hillside is often witness to incredible moonrises, and the stars are always bright.
The Beer Diviner small-scale brewery and taproom is a stone's throw away from the parking area with a selection of tasty beer and some food options available. In addition to regular hours, there are special summer events, and live music every Saturday night.
Cherry Plain State Park is a 'less-traveled' state park and campground just 3.5 miles up the road, offering lake swimming, boating, hiking and mountain bike trails
Other nearby outdoor attractions include: The Taconic Crest Trail, Jiminy Peak Resort, Hancock Shaker Village, and Mt. Greylock.

The Dacha is a truly peaceful retreat! I was blown away by how private and tucked away this little cabin property is - you'll feel a million miles away from it all, though very easy to access. The cabin and outdoor space is decked out with sweet details and heaps of charm. You have every necessity desired for a very cushy "camp" experience – clean drinking water, a well-kept composting outhouse, beds in both rooms & linens, a proper outdoor kitchen area, games & books, and even thoughtful touches like provided teas & jars filled with flowers! I honestly cannot recommend this property enough, and hope to return again soon! (Especially for the fall foliage season!)
The Dacha and Tent Platform were wonderful! Andrew and Vicki are such great hosts, making sure everything was stocked and prepared. I really liked how inviting and functional the space was, really accommodating all aspects of camping life. We brought an entire theatre company, and everyone felt very comfortable. New additions like the running water were welcome indeed. The composting toilet makes me feel good about being a human in the woods. Bring some shade for yourself and take caution on the road leading up to the camp if you're going by car. Thank you so much guys! We can't wait to come back.
The cabin was really nice, and well kept. The Cabin had two rooms which was a nice surprise. Andrew and Victoria are great hosts and left plenty of books, games, extra blankets and pillows for us. The land is very private and there was plenty of firewood to last us days.
I highly recommend this cabin to anyone. I would go back again in a heartbeat. I loved my experience. The only negative about this cabin is that you can't drive up to it and have to use the wheelbarrow to bring your gear up the hill. Will definitely come back!
Absolutely loved the dacha and fully intend to make this my weekend retreat from the city. Bare necessities to get you through your stay but the outdoor kitchen and privacy of this hipcamp are top notch. I didn’t realize there is a brewery NEXT DOOR which is another huge selling point for coming back. There’s also a gentle stream on the property that you can take a dip in and a great state park only 10 minutes away by car.
The Dacha was absolutely amazing and we did not want to leave!!! There are pots, pans, a place to cook, and a sink with running water. Bathing in the stream was super refreshing and just listening to the water really made us feel at peace. The inside of the Dacha is quaint and the decor is perfect!!! We played games by candlelight, made crafts, read, and just relaxed and enjoyed the space! Thank you and we look forward to visiting again!
What an AMAZING experience! So much beauty in one place. I went solo this trip but loved it so much I booked another for my family! Only suggestion is having 2 wheelbarrels, one for the platform and one for the dacha, since I had to do a lot of walking up and down the hill to get it, put it back then get it again as a courtesy for the platform guests. (Which was fine...they were so nice!) I would HIGHLY recommend this place, as long as you are able bodied to handle the short walk up from the parking area to the camp.
