The vibe at Loony Jeanne's
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
Our group had the most wonderful time staying at Aunt Jeanne's Pond!! Jeanne and Walt are amazing hosts, and had everything (and more) set up for us upon our arrival. They thought of everything we could need, and it was super helpful to have utensils and cups that we forgot to pack. The grounds were clean and tidy, and you can tell that they take pride in this land. The ponds were stocked for fishing, and the pavilion provided comfort despite a rainy day. The outhouse and shower were the cleanest you could imagine! We loved our stay and can't wait to come back!
Walter and Jeanne were so amazing, and we had an incredible time picking Walter's brain about sustainability, off grid set-ups, and swapping travel stories. The place itself is really amazing, they've spent 15 years building up the property, and even the pond itself was built by them! It's entirely off-grid, run mostly by solar, but you would never know. There's a wood fired sauna, a VERY hot (or cold if you like) outdoor shower where you have a beautiful view of the trees above. Great cooking area, and even some swimming, kayaking, charging station and games included! They even left us some homemade balsamic maple vinaigrette that we put on our salad picked right from the garden! Very relaxing, very private. We would love to come back sometime!
Walter and Jeanne's place is just amazing. I couldn't have found a more perfect place to find a quiet and beautiful place to hang out with my good friends while still having the basic amenities to make it comfortable and easy. The pavillion is a huge game changer - it gives you plenty of space to prepare and eat food even if it's raining with plenty of light. The solar-powered and handcrafted facilities, like the outhouse and outdoor shower, are gorgeous, clean and comfortable. Which by the way, Walter all built everything himself, so it's a true labor of love and it shows. The ponds are full of fish, fun for a swim, and the grounds are fun to roam and explore the ferns and trees. Just so you know what to expect, there are a few houses surrounding the property that you can see off in the distance, and you might even occasionally hear some folks off in the distance on their porch or what not. But it's tons of space to have to yourself, and it blows any typical car camping setting I've ever seen out of the water for that reason. I would come back in a heartbeat.
We hesitate to write the stellar review we are about to bc we don't want Loony Jeanne's to be full so much we can never get back there!
Where to begin. We can't recommend a stay at Jeanne and Walt's place enough. Everything from top to bottom is perfect and they were very conscientious and lovely hosts. We had no troubles finding the place and were really shocked at how private, quiet and light pollution free the property was. There are neighbors but they are (in leaf season) totally hidden behind the tree living curtains and far enough off that we didn't even recognize they were there. Jeanne and Walt left a personalized welcome packet with details about the area and were on call to answer any questions we had right away when we checked in. We met Jeanne the morning we were leaving and it was really fun talking with her - she's a great host and very warm and caring.
The set-up J&W have put together is extraordinary - we will have a very difficult time going back to state park camping. There's a really great open kitchen under an open barn roof with perfectly lit solar lights. They have thought of every detail needed in the kitchen - water holders, soap, sponges, spices, battery lamps, plates, cups, cutlery, cooking pans - you don't need to bring anything except your sleep set up, food, oil and a cooler.
Three Coleman lamps with supplies of propane. Double grill camp stove. Two firepits with tons of extremely well seasoned wood! The outhouse is actually really serene and is quite nicely decorated. J&W had put up helpful stakes around the property for tent pitch suggestions - you can also set up on a platform. The outdoor shower is AWESOME and very hot. We didn't get a chance to try the sauna bc it was a hot hot weekend but J&W left detailed instructions for its use.
There were virtually no mosquitoes - the ponds are spring water fed and constantly refreshing so no standing water. We found just one tick the whole visit.
Speaking of the ponds - the swimming pond is AMAZING. The water is nice and refreshing and they built the whole place so there's details like a jumping off rock and a climbing out of the water step. There's a kayak, canoe, noodles, floating chaise lounge, fins and snorkels. There's fishing poles and blueberry bushes and raspberry bushes. Theres a greenhouse with terrific lettuce and tomatoes J&W welcome you to.
We really want to thank Walt and Jeanne for welcoming us to their property and creating such a magical experience. We can't wait to come back and we really recommend their place.
We had the most amazing weekend at Loony Jeanne's! So good that we're already planning our next visit. Everything was better than we expected, the place is huge and has the perfect mix of wilderness and the amenities of a fully equipped house. We highly recommend Loony Jeanne's for your next camping!
Walter and Jeanne's place is amazing!! They were very nice hosts, they stopped by to check if we were ok, and we had some homemade blueberry muffins waiting for us on our arrival!
We loved our stay there. The place is actually even nicer and bigger than in the pictures. We had a rainy day but that wasn't a limitation! We still did the Slide Mountain trail which is 30 minutes away, and enjoyed the sauna to relax afterwards.
The pond is awesome! We had a lot of fun there, and there is everything you need to enjoy it.
Very importantly, the open kitchen has everything you need (even wine glasses!) so you don't need to bring anything except the tent and a cooler.
We really thank Walter and Jeanne for this experience. We can't wait to go back! :D
