Hudson Valley Cabin near Orchard
Great Off The Grid Experience!
This place is great - cozy and the right amount of rustic. It’s definitely camping, with no hot water or electricity, which is not something I do too often. I stayed by myself as a weekend retreat, and it was what I wanted! Kathy was great upfront with all the info and even left me some supplies (lanterns, flashlight, a trash bag etc). Even though the second night I stayed got cold - down to 35 - the wood burning stove provided plenty of warmth, and I didn’t even notice the cold until the next morning! One of the days I went apple picking in the orchard which was fun, and I went to several of the restaurant and winery recommendations made by Kathy (Raccoon Saloon has the best burgers and is 5 min away)! One thing to note is that the cabin is on a larger, beautiful property with other guests staying at the lodge. The property also has a shooting clay course within earshot and a 2 minute walk. I was a bit surprised about how close this was - it didn’t bother me, just closer than I thought. Thanks for a great experience! I’ll be back next season :-)

Hudson Valley Cabin near Orchard
This was the perfect spot to enjoy a long weekend! The little cabin has everything you need, the bed is very comfortable, and we enjoyed making fire outside and inside every night. There is an apple orchard on the property, not far from the cabin. It is absolutely magical. Would definitely come back. Thanks to the owners who were super nice and even brought us extra firewood one night!!

Charming
We really enjoyed our stay in the cabin! It’s much closer to camping than a vacation rental house; you get a full bed and a private toilet, but the house is definitely off the grid and both potable and non-potable water are limited. We appreciated the note in the other review that there are no screens in the windows, as it helped us plan in advance. Some other things worth noting to help with planning: only one of our phones had cell service at the cabin, and the road to the cabin is long and mostly unpaved. You’ll DEFINITELY want to do your first visit during daylight to get a feel for the drive. The hosts left clear directions to the cabin, and also recommended bringing in extra potable water, which we did, and which we used. They also kindly left a plethora of battery-operated lanterns and a battery-operated fan in the cabin for us, as well as plenty of towels. And they were very responsive to a messaged request for more paper supplies. Logistics aside, the cabin is charming, the bed is comfortable, and we really enjoyed exploring the rest of the land, which includes pear and apple orchards, fields, and a couple of lakes. The cabin itself faces a cute pond that you have to yourself. The only other people we saw on the property were the hosts when they came over to drop off supplies, and another vacationing family from further down the hill that were going for a walk. We would definitely stay again, and I think the only thing I’d change would be to bring the camp stove to make cooking meals less work (we did it over the open fire this time, mostly for the fun of it).

Cozy & Romantic
A sweet little slice of heaven nestled between the woods, with a symphony of frogs by the pond. The cabin was rustic and while off the grid it was cozy and comfortable. I appreciate all the little rustic details and the vintage finds through out the cabin.

Hudson Valley Cabin near Orchard
Not what I expected
This cabin fell short of expectations, which was partially due to (incorrect) assumptions I made and partially due to the owners not putting forth any effort. The cabin is well-constructed, with a queen bed and wood stove, a battery-powered mini-fridge that gets semi-cool, plus a toilet off the kitchen (partitioned by shower curtain). There's a nice hammock out front. That's where the "modern luxuries" mentioned in the listing end. This is, first and foremost, CAMPING that happens to be in a permanent structure and you should pack/prepare accordingly. Now, I like camping and go often, but I had messed up by assuming that at 200 bucks per night and with pictures of a stove, etc. that this was a step up. It was a last-minute trip and we wanted the retreat without all the prep that goes toward organizing gear, etc. We were caught by surprise when we arrived after dark and there was no electricity to unload. There is no potable water from the sink, and the owners had left one gallon of water to split between two people for two nights, so we knew we'd have to head back to town to get more. The stove is for decoration only, with a big note saying it's not functional and DO NOT USE. The house was mega-hot from being shut up during the day (many days?) and the windows do not have screens in them, so if you visit in the summer, your choice is to boil alive or get eaten by mosquitoes overnight. Windows do not have curtains and there are golf carts that come through for maintenance of the property and sporting clays course, so you won't have complete privacy either. We knew in advance and were OK with the outdoor cold-water shower. All of this would be fine if A) it was communicated beforehand and B) if it was priced accordingly. They did neither, and in fact, we never met our hosts, nor did they stop by or call or email to see if we needed anything. The town of Marlboro is a 15 minute drive away for groceries or other supplies, and I can recommend Benmarl Winery which is also close by. And the cabin is cute, if you were there in a cooler season and just wanted to read in the hammock or sit in a rocking chair by the wood stove. For the price we paid, this was supremely disappointing, without even a human touch to say hello.
