White Sulfur Springs Artist retreat is 90 minutes northwest of New York City in the beautiful Catskill Mountain Region of Upstate New York. The retreat is within a 10 minute drive to the incredible Peekamoose hiking trails and waterfalls as well as the Neversink Reservoir swimming area. The retreat has a cabin, large tent spot (tent and the platform has been removed when the pandemic started) This site features a firepit/grill, chairs and a small table.
Unlike more densely settled, gentrified areas outside the city, such as the Hudson River Valley or the Hamptons, this corner of Sullivan County feels lost in time, a cluster of tiny hamlets (like Rosco, world famous for its fly fishing) that follow the twists and turns of the Delaware River.
On the western edge of Sullivan County is the town of Jeffersonville, a place where you can find antiques and all sorts of oddities that feel like treasures lost in time. The towns of Livingston Manor and Callicoon, each less than 20 miles from one another, are attracting artists and entrepreneurs who are transforming these sleepy towns.
During the winter the Catskill Mountains are transformed into a winter oasis where snow skiing, cross country skiing and snowmobiling take center stage.

We loved it here. Afsana and Todd were very nice and accommodating. We heard owls and woodpeckers from our site. Very close to lots of beautiful hikes and water. Check out the Blue Hole just make sure you have a permit!! Also did the Red Hill Firetower Hike. Well worth it!

Wonderful, charming campsite, with beautiful grounds. I stayed at the bare site at the top of the hill away from the main sites. It was so peaceful and quiet, ensconced by woods, but with a clearing to star watch at night. Highly recommend, and looking forward to returning!

Afsana is a wonderful host and her artist retreat is nothing but amazing. There are small artifacts dotted the area for you to explore. The ENTIRE facility is completely hand built by Afsana and her family, 99% of the building materials are either reclaimed or re-purposed. The retreat has two beautiful cabins, two campsites, a kitchen shed, a open dining area and a small bathhouse with running hot water over a tub with sink and composite toilet. Afsana and her family also stay at the retreat over the weekend so you can expect to see some of their private items. (ie: super well stocked spice rack in the kitchen and toiletries in the bathhouse.) The campsite comes with a tent and sleeping pad/sleeping bag, plenty of cut branches on the side to start the fire (we brought our own firewood) and a fire ring for cooking. Afsana was super kind to allow us to pitch our tents at a near by location which is covered with dry pine needles (THE BEST.) At night the site is extremely quiet and you can see a full sky of stars. There are wild blueberry and chamomile on the site as well. The retreat is just south of Catskills and north of Bethel (where Woodstock was held,) Delaware water gap is due west so you can find all sort of activities to do.
TIP:
Monticello is about 20 mins away and has a walmart supercenter if you need to stock up supplies such as firewood or food.
The house leading into the retreat belongs to another family, not Afsana.
Contact Afsana if you prefer to bring your own camping gear.
The retreat is at a slightly higher elevation.
Water at the end of the road by the fire hydrant, go find it.

Allen, Thank you for staying @ WSS artist retreat. We enjoyed having you over. I really appreciate your feedback with regards to the making a kitchen composter. It will be also very helpful for the garden that is on my list off the thongs to do :)
Lovely space with fire pits galore! Cozy and relaxing, stocked with almost everything you need!
Afsana and Todd were fabulous hosts! We showed up very late but they were wonderful, setting up our tent hours ahead and giving us a tour of their property to make hunkering down both easy and especially welcoming. Their site is beautiful - so many beautiful places to sleep, and what a pleasant surprise to have a toilet AND A SHOWER! Lovely little clearing for stargazing, we loved the pre-set firepit and hospitality. Can't wait to go back - this spot is a gem! Can't recommend enough!
It was a great experience!) we enjoyed chilling by the fireplace, in cosy and quiet environment, cooked a nice meal on the provided bbq equipment in a very romantic atmosphere. There is a well kept compost toilet and a shower with hot water. We didn’t have enough time to explore the area because we had to leave soon but the place offers plenty of nice activities to whatever you’d feel doing. Afsana was very polite and nice, she is a great host. She was not on the site, but provided answers by phone. The camp can not be found on google maps, but it’s there))) will come back to this place.
We loved Out hosts Afsana And Todd. We felt super welcomed and they were very courteous. We all got that family vibe and would totally book a stay in the future.
