The vibe at Pop-Up Homesteading and Arts
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
Susan and her friendly homesteaders are excellent hosts. We set up a tent in the large yard, met a diverse group of kind-hearted people, enjoyed communal meals and had engaging conversations in the evening next to the campfire ring. At night the orchestra of crickets and frogs was intense and beautiful. We had access to the indoor bathrooms and water/kitchen facilities, which made a multi-night stay very easy. Susan was also incredibly approachable and helpful. Instead of a secluded camping experience my boyfriend and I were surprised to be welcomed into a new home.
I chose to stay at Susan's because it was affordable and all the state campgrounds were booked up for Indigenous People's Day weekend (one of the most popular weekends for camping). This is a great place to stay if you want to meet a bunch of people and eat meals together. It's also possible to keep to yourself like my partner and I did and enjoy some privacy. It's not the biggest backyard so you can hear other campers murmuring and people going in and out of the house, but that's not terribly different from most other car-camping situations. All in all, it's an affordable and safe place to set up a tent with some optionality.
