What a cool property this is!!! Caywood Lakeside Campsite is down a winding gravel driveway and you will end at a very tidy two story white house. Park and then walk along the left side of the house and once you are into the clearing (such a beautiful view!) look to your left. You will see the sweetest screened room with a gable roof and a set of steps elevating it over the field. There is also a picnic table for you to use in the grass. There is no plumbing or electricity in the room but there is a queen sized bed with a new air mattress for you use. Bring your own bedding and pillows. There are also candles for some nighttime lighting. We did not meet Bill while we were there, but you can feel the love he treats his land with.
You will find a wide mowed path out front of the screened room that leads across the field. Grab some snacks and head on out. The path will take you down the field and then down a curving rock lined path down to the lake! You will get your exercise on the way back up for sure. Down by the water is a boat house, a small dock, and a rock beach. Its a beautiful view of the lake.
We can’t say enough about this place!!!! It is truly a special property!
This place exceeded expectations. It surprised us all with its pristine beauty. Bill was a terrific host, helpful and friendly, and clearly has a deep connection to the place. It's also accessible to wineries, and the lake.
Bill's place is something special. He is a thoughtful host. There was firewood, water, s small charcoal grill and various sundries available at the site. The land itself is gorgeous with rolling fields, woods, and a gorge area. The screened in "cabin" with deck had wonderful views and the location is convenient to wineries and the various state parks and natural wonders around Seneca and Cayuga Lakes. No need to pitch a tent unless you want to, there was plenty of room for two adults and two children in the shelter. Very private setting and a short, scenic, but sometimes steep walk to the large beach area (Mulberry tree with tasty berries by the beach). There is a canoe and kayak there for exploring as well. Of added convenience was access to a bathroom on site.
Caywood camp is a beautiful serene location on Seneca Lake. There is a bit of a hike down to the lake front access, but is it absolutely worth it. The lake is absolutely stunning and the access is relatively private. The sleeping location has incredible views of sunset.
Bill was very kind and helpful host. He left plenty of firewood, as a charcoal grill for our usage.
The camp is very close to several vineyards and breweries. Watkins Glen is about 20 minutes away. We want to plan a trip back to stay in the future!
Hands down, this was the best campsite we have ever been to. Bill was so kind and accommodating to our late arrival (yay city traffic) and he set us up with every amenity imaginable; cold water, charcoal + a grill, candles, and even a bathroom with a shower. The lake view was incredible to wake up to and the private lake access was such a treat. Being so close to the vineyards and within walking distance to one of our favorite wineries in the area was totally relaxing and surreal. The air mattress was comfortable and we felt safe and secure even during a huge rain storm. Can't recommend this place enough, thank you, Bill!
The host was super friendly, made sure we had charcoal and such for the grill, wood set out for the fire, a jug of water and ice for the cooler. The land itself was beautiful and the lake was the perfect temperature but beware - the climb back up will leave you tired. Definitely will be coming back to stay at a later date, couldn't be happier with the experience.
