About Allegany State Park

Although most of Allegheny State Park’s natural area is in Pennsylvania, the northern area on this side of the border (New York) really has the amazing stuff. The park is a lesson in geology and has impressive boulders and rock outcrops. This makes it a popular location for sightseers as well as rock climbers. Or, just normal people who like to climb stuff. And if you fall into this category, there is plenty to scramble up. There is also a whopping 3,000 acres of old growth forest that contains some of the largest and oldest trees in the state. Wandering through this rugged and ancient terrain truly feels like a step back in time.
