Melinda (the wife) and her family are from this area, since before the city of Gallup, before the long walk, before colonization. Hence there is a lot of historical and ceremonial knowledge regarding this place. Melinda is fluent in Navajo and very knowledgeable. Chako (the husband) is Mvskoke from Oklahoma, he can tell you a lot about the landscaping plan if your interested and is fluent in Mvskoke language.

This was such a unique and interesting experience. The Hogan was very cozy and comfortable and had everything we needed. Our host, Anthony, was friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. It was the perfect stop over on our journey. Don't miss this one!

The hosts are friendly, flexible, and very responsive to communication. The hogan is beautiful, with electricity & three cots, though there is space enough for at least double that number of sleeping bags. We went in mid-summer but the hogan stayed cool inside.

What an incredible find. We we're on a roadtrip through New Mexico and found this amazing hogan for the night. It was a very special place to stay in as Anthony built it with his hands and there is so much charm and energy in it. Anthony and his family were super nice and greeted us when we arrived. The sunrise comes right over their property and it's amazing. Also, you'll get to hear the coyotes singing at night. We were very happy with our stay.

We had a lovely time staying in this quaint Hogan. Located on a beautiful desert landscape next to our host's (Anthony's) home is nestled their yellow family hogan. We were on our way from Zion to Santa Fe and needed a place to stay for the night, and this Hogan was a nice "luxury" to the camping we've done. Wood fire stove (which we didn't need, helloooo hot outside), 3 cots, a small kitchen prep area, toaster oven, and a few lights inside. The dirt floors are lined with rubber mats and the windows anointed with curtains that provide darkness that let us sleep in 30 mins past the sunrise. Anthony was very kind in greeting us upon arrival, alongside his two sweet dogs (a little nervous at first, but sweet all the while). In fact, we even left our lantern at the hogan and he has been kind and responsive to help return it to us. This was a great place for us to stay at while we were passing through - it allowed us to not unpack the car and give us a comfortable rest before we left again on our journey. If our travels send us through Gallop again we'd most definitely stay here. Two tips: 1) If you are traveling at night, you won't be able to spot this yellow beauty from the road, so be sure to ask Anthony for more detailed directions. 2) there are a number of off-leash dogs on the main road coming into their place, so drive slow and watch for them!

This was a special and unique experience. Anthony built the hogan himself and we felt very fortunate to be able to spend the night in this sacred space. They had chopped wood and kindling ready for the wood stove (which heats up the place really quickly) and a small kitchen area to make some food. Sweet dogs, kind hosts, beautiful landscape!

If you're looking for a cozy place to stay while travelin' along old Route 66 this is your spot. Just minutes away from down town Gallup this Yellow Hogan is a great place to stay the night. We enjoyed using the wood-burning stove to warm up the place and the large cooking surface to make our meals. It was a perfect wind down from a long day of driving and exploring. The Yellow Hogan is surrounded by such a beautiful landscape and has two of the friendliest dogs you'll ever meet. Not to mention a very welcoming host (who is very worry free to communicate with) to make you feel right at home.
