The Shanti community is on a slice of New Mexico heaven that is absolutely breathtaking! We were delayed because of a fire and Shelly was kind enough to extend our checkout time so we could sleep in a bit, and enjoy our lovely yurt. This community is definitely off the beaten path and remote with off grid amenities like a solar shower, outhouse, and outdoor kitchen. The perfect place to get away and enjoy the beauty of nature and the company of some truly rad people!

The Shanti Community was amazing! I stayed in the yurt on the property, though there are also a handful of converted buses available to stay in as well. The yurt was nice and cozy, warmed by a woodfire stove. Shelly was a wonderful host and made sure that we had everything we needed during our stay. The area is serene and truly off the grid, and there are some fantastic areas for hiking as well. I can't wait to come back next time I'm in the area!

Shelly was an amazing hostess who gave amazing directions. The road there may be rough, but it’s exceedingly worth it. The landscape was breathtaking and even though we came during a rainstorm, we still had phenomenal views of the surrounding mountains and experienced an incredible sunrise. The yurt was beyond comfortable while still feeling like we were roughing it in the best possible way. The little town of Madrid provided all the provisions we needed – stop there for anything you need before you head up into the mountains. You won’t want to leave once you get there.

This place is amazing. It's set back quite a bit off a rocky road, and has an uninterrupted view of the surrounding high desert and mountains. The yurt was fairly private and was very clean and cozy. Shelly (the host) was awesome and set me up with firewood and everything else I needed to have a good stay - comfy bed, clean sheets, warm blankets, and was just a text message away if I needed anything else (water, etc.). It also had a double burner and dishes/coffee pour over/etc in the yurt.

The nearby town of Madrid is funky and fun too. The green chile burger at The Mine Shaft is not to be missed, and the food at The Hollar across the street was good. The location isn't too far from Santa Fe either. You may want to come with your own food/coffee/snacks as there isn't a great store nearby, though I noticed that there was coffee and tea in the yurt if you wanted it.

The host, Shelly, is also super cool! I had a great time talking with her. Now she's got me tempted to buy a plot of land in Madrid :)

My friends and I just got back home from a two night stay at the Shanti Community. I stayed in the yurt with my girlfriend and it was so great! We had everything we needed and then some. It is cozy inside and has a big deck outside. I enjoyed watching the sunset and the stars come into view at night and having my coffee while listening to the birds chirp in the morning. It is a serene place with beautiful views and a peaceful quietness. We will definitely be back soon! Also, the town of Madrid is a plus. People were so friendly and the shops were unique!

We loved staying in the Shanti yurt. Everything was cozy and comfy and adorable. The views were majestic, and the stargazing was magical! The best part though was the fabulous breakfast! We both highly recommend ordering the breakfast! Wish we could have stayed for morning yoga! Next time! We enjoyed a lovely dinner in the little town of Madrid before driving onto the property.
