First off and most importantly I will start off describing this property as a rescue ranch in progress. We have rescue horses, mules and donkeys roaming freely throughout the property. We also have rescue dogs that are all friendly and enjoy running freely and greeting our guests. Accommodations can be made as far as containing animals away from campsites upon request. All hipcamp proceeds go towards the care of the rescue animals. With that said we warmly welcome you to come and camp on our isolated 160 acre New Mexico ranch and experience peace, tranquility and breathtaking scenic beauty.  Pitch a tent on one of  several designated camping spots (or pick your own) or bring your RV or camper trailer and prepare yourself for amazing radiant sunsets, jaw-dropping night skies, and rejuvenating sunrises.  During the day hike the surrounding red cliffs and mesas, view the ancient petroglyphs and find amazing pottery shards scattered throughout the property, or just hang out and meet our rescue animal children. Occasionally a herd of elk will venture out and graze with our equines. At night you will be serenaded by the neighboring coyotes and resident spotted owls.  Feel like exploring off the ranch? Visit the nearby Casamero Pueblo ruins a mile down the road, Bluewater Lake State Park or drive to the small post-mining town of Grants and explore the Mining Museum, Bandera Volcano & Ice Cave, El Malpais National Monument and many other nearby interesting sites!

Nevermore Ranch is amazing! It's a working dog and horse rescue in a beautiful red sandstone canyon! Nathalie had about 10 horses and 10 dogs, 4 cats, and a goat, mostly roaming about trying to nuzzle us. We were the first ever public guests and the campsite wasn't fenced off from the dogs yet, but it will be soon and it's already ideal if you're sleeping in a van (we were). It is truly magical to have jealous horses surrounding you and nuzzling to get petted at your campsite in the morning. And all the animals were sooo happy and healthy! I also recommend arriving after dark so you can be blown away by the views in the morning.

Notice the van in the corner! That was our campsite!More or less the view above our campsiteHorses nuzzling in the morning!

David, I'm so glad your family enjoyed the visit. It was such a joy to see your kids run around with pure pleasure and excitement on their faces! Maybe next time you come through if you want to stay again we can trade off.... campsite for permaculture education!! :-). p.s. the dogs enjoyed your kids too!!

Host was extremely friendly, helpful and accommodating. Very beautiful area and remote enough for quiet days and dark, star filled nights!

Nevermore Ranch is more than an idyllic retreat on a classic Southwestern red rock landscape. Yes, it has accessible hikes with stunning views and camping in the shadow of petroglyphs for the archeologically curious. But it also has rescue pooches and horses who extended a warm welcome to this wandering stranger. And it’s conveniently located for AZ-NM traffic or a straight shot north to Durango. Put it on your itinerary!

Horace! I am glad you were able to enjoy your visit despite the rain and your camper issues! I had great conversations with you and hope to see you again someday!!

Natalie has a really neat piece of land and I'm so grateful she shares this special place with not only people but unwanted animals too. The horses are friendly and politely curious. The dogs are your welcoming committee and the ducks, turkeys, chickens, and goats are so adorable! I really, really liked my stay here.

My stay was peaceful and just what I needed. There are petroglyphs right across from campsite 4, where I stayed, and if you continue along the rock you will see what appears to be inscriptions from when the Spaniards came through this area. You can hike around the entire property if you would like to move about and the stars at night are so clear, they are like beacons of hope.
