Please be aware that we do have wildlife that comes through as we're right by National Forest. If you are not comfortable with a bear visiting looking for food, this is probably not the perfect place to stay as we are remote! Pitch your tent or sleep under the stars on one of the 2 tent sites on the 30 acres property overlooking the arroyo and hillside. The land is covered in juniper, pinon and ponderosa pine. Ideal place to reconnect with nature. There is a trail up to the ridge that overlooks our magical valley. A bit further down the road is National Forest with endless trails and Glorieta Baldy to explore. A seasonal creek runs through the land as well. Please check in before it gets dark (around 7:15 PM spring/fall and 8:15 PM during summer) in order to avoid getting lost as we have no light pollution and it's dark!
Additionally, there is a teepee on the property (Magical La Cueva Prairie Fire Tipi listing).
The restroom is a converted open air horse trailer with hot water, electricity and a compost toilet. Plenty of firewood than can be collected to make a fire if there is no fire ban in place in Santa Fe County (fire ban generally from May through early July before the monsoon season). The fire pit may be used to cook.
Please contact host if you plan to arrive before 5 pm.
We consider last minute stays, overnighters.
Things to consider and be aware of:
We're located about 2 miles down a dirt road. During bad weather the road might be slippery and it might be difficult to access the property without a 4x4 or all wheel drive vehicle.
Best to do shopping and get gas in Santa Fe before you head up the mountain as there are only a few options.
We are at 7,300 feet. It can get cold even during summer months. Bring warm layers.
Things to do: A hiking trail wanders to the top of the hill that is overlooks our valley. If you want to explore more, the county dirt road goes up to Glorieta Baldy that has a view all the way to Albuquerque and the Espanola valley. There is also an old abandoned fire lookout tower (closed). Pecos river and canyon, Pecos National Historic Park and Monastery Lake are about 8 miles.

Really wonderful experience! We rented out both sites and it was great! The horse trailer bathroom was very nice to have and worked really well for us. Our host was very friendly and didn’t bat an eye when our son made a rock sculpture. We’d love to come back!
Perfect isolation getaway!
This was just what our family needed!
As most campgrounds are closed I was trying to find a safe alternative for a little getaway and this exceeded our expectations.
The property is gorgeous! And accommodations were very comfy. We took a small little camper up here and Susanne helped us find a spot that would be best suited for it.
The little bathroom on the property is incredibly convenient! Much nicer than most campground bathrooms you'll find at traditional sites :)
There is a really nice hike on her property with gorgeous views... we may have gotten a little lost on the way down but found our way easily with help from Susanne :)
There is also a little teepee on this property that looks like it'd be really fun to rent!
Beautiful secluded spot
Gorgeous spot with a lot of care put into it! Facilities are great, worked perfectly for our van camping. Susanne was kind and helpful - highly recommend!
Sweet and starry
Susanne was a super friendly and helpful host. She accommodated us even when our campsite wasn’t vacant. The space is really peaceful and well maintained. There is plenty of hiking to do around her property and other adventuring not too far away. The horse trailer shower/ toilet is so cute and very clean. We would definitely stay here again. :)
We had a wonderful time at La Cueva! Susanne was great! She showed us around upon arrival and truly seemed to care about our camping experience. We had everything we needed on site and the hiking trail leading to the bluff overlooking the campsite was an extra bonus! We would definitely stay again! 20 min outside of Santa Fe with plenty of hiking and biking in the Pecos forest ruled.
I came in late at night so it was a little difficult to navigate the back roads. But Suzanne met me and showed me exactly where to do. The site and the land far exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend. And get there early to enjoy all it has to offer.
We had a great stay! The campground was beautiful and had lots of conveniences. Susanne was very friendly and helpful. She even cheerfully jumped in when we needed a jump. I definitely recommend this site
