If remote Beauty is what you are after, Hound Dog Homestead also known as HDH, is just the place for you! HDH is 140 acres of true bliss! The views are EPIC! Sunrise and sunset will absolutely blow the mind!!! Sit atop one of the highest mesas in the region and gaze at the breathtaking views of the Zuni Mountains to the south, Tsoodzit Mountain to the east, and the iconic canyon views to the north.

The high altitude of HDH and its hills, cliffs, rock formations, trees, grasses, wildflowers, and abundance of wildlife like deer, elk, wild horses rabbits and birds make Hound Dog Homestead perfect for all out door enthusiast.

Located just 60 miles south of the world heritage site known as Chaco Canyon, Hound Dog Homestead is rich in the historical cultures of the Ancient Anasazi and Chacoan people. Pottery shards dating 1000 to 2000 years old are a common site! Take an easy hike from camp and visit a 1500 year old Chacoan dwelling, or take a more difficult hike to the top of the mesa and visit an ancient Chacoan Signal Fire used to communicate with Chaco Canyon.

The 300 sqft Cabin is built completely with re purposed materials! In the cabin you will find walls of beautiful wooden windows, 100 year old hardwood flooring, and 200 year old oak beams.? Music Lovers!!! There is a large collection of classic records to play on the vintage sound system. A gigantic antique wood stove is sure to keep you warm in the colder months. Our 1930’s oven and stove along with a "tiny" sink is sure to keep you fed! We provide ice and a medium sized Yeti Cooler for your refrigerated items. The lights, record player, water pump, wifi, and phone charging outlets operate on a 12volt battery bank. At your request we can run a quiet generator to power a 46 inch TV equipped with Netflix. The cabin sleeps up to 6 people. There is a full sized Murphy (fold down) bed, a couch, and an air mattress at your request.

There is a private bathroom consisting of 1 composting toilet only. (don't be afraid, its easy to use and you wont smell or see a single thing!) There is no sink or shower in the bathroom. However, we do have an outdoor single person wood burning bathtub! Thats right!!! you heard me! A WOOD FIRED HOT TUB!!! BUT.... It's actually a part of a one of our other sites. If during your stay, that site isn't occupied we can make the hot tub available to you for a small additional charge. (that site "The New Settlement" is also Listed on Hip Camp also. Super cool site!)

We loved our stay at the homestead cabin! It's remote but still accessible and the location is beautiful. The cabin and land jut up against a mesa and BLM so there is a lot to explore/hike. The cabin itself is truly amazing. It's off the grid (with a generator) and looks out over the landscape. It almost felt like being in a tree house or fire watch tower. We liked how basic but functional the cabin was and the deck was perfect for stargazing The best part of our stay was how responsive and accommodating Brett was. He provided lots of recommendations for things to do in the area and gave us plenty of peace and quiet but was only a short distance away if we needed him. This is exactly the kind of place I've been looking for in New Mexico and would definitely recommend.
