Welcome to the charming village of Sweetwater, NJ! Arrive by land or water and set up camp alongside the Mullica River nestled in the NJ Pine Barrens of Wharton State Forest. This 2.5 acre property has multiple sites available depending on your desired level of privacy. Cars/vans/tents can be accommodated. Dock slip available for an extra fee.  Up the river, you'll find Batsto Village - a former bog iron works and glass making epicenter in 1766. Much of the village is maintained and features a museum and tours.   "The Forks"; the spot where the Batsto and Mullica river meet was known for ship building and privateers during the Revolution. Glass and paper-making factories dotted the riverbanks, but are now since ghost towns. The area is so rich in history, one could spend a lifetime studying. And let's not forget the legend of the Jersey Devil! Within walking distance is the Sweetwater Riverdeck and Marina featuring riverfront dining and live music.  Chickens and bees also live here so you can collect fresh eggs for your campfire breakfast.  The main house is located on property. Quiet hours are 11:00pm-7:00am.

Pitch Pines Camp
The prepared site is pretty much accurately described, and we had a great time in the Pine Barrens. We went on a couple of canoeing trips with a company the host suggested. There's a small area at the site for a tent (our 5-person filled it - it would be perfect for a 2-3 person tent); a fire circle; and a nylon shelter with a portable toilet inside. The toilet is has a chemical cleaning system and flushing was a little tricky - we got the hang of it. Water for cooking is a few hundred feet down the driveway by a barn. No shower, but the river is very refreshing (just pay attention to tides as the level varies a lot). You could hear a band playing at a nearby establishment in the evenings - music my sons and husband like, but might not work for people seeking peace and quiet in the outdoors. The only problem we had - which turned out to be significant - was that the site is very close to the neighbor's driveway, and apparently the neighbor wasn't happy about it. As we were preparing to swim in the river our last full day, and older man drove by in his truck and dumped out a pot of water then drove off - making my teenage son uneasy. Then a few minutes later he drove back and started videoing me with his phone while I was unloading something from the trunk of my car (parked on the site owner's property but near his driveway). When I said something he drove off towards his house. At our insistence, the host and neighbor then had a conversation they probably should have had before the site opened. After this conversation, we talked to the host and felt OK enough to stay one more night and leave in the morning. It appears that the listing hasn't been reopened since last summer, which is unfortunate. I don't know what happened - apparently the neighbor has already complained to the local town council - but I guess it's a caution to hosts to discuss what their intentions with the neighbors, especially if campsites are anywhere close to property lines.

Lauren and her mom were great hosts. The lake was gorgeous, especially at sunset, and the little clearing for our tent and fire was cute. There's a nifty little outdoor toilet as well, and the chickens added a lot of charm. We really enjoyed our stay!

Pitch Pines was So lovely and Lauren was such a wonderful host! What a beautiful property, lovely lake and cute stickers! The chickens add such charm! The campsite is so well kept and was so nice to visit. I can't say enough good things about our time at Pitch Pines! (Also those were some delicious eggs from what seems to be very happy chickens!)

Riverside Camp
Staying at Lauren's farm provided all the best parts of camping in the Pine Barrens. Waking up with the sun reflecting on the river, cooking by campfire, and being able to see stars at night made for such a relaxing weekend. Being able to swim, hike, or even take trips to the beach, seafood markets, pick your own blueberry farms made it even better. Lauren's farm is secluded, but close to so many things to do. Would definitely recommend staying on the river at Lauren's for anyone for anyone trying to get out and explore the pine barrens or just hang by the river and relax :)

Pitch Pines Camp
Our stay was great! We spent a lot of time just laying on the dock, enjoying the river. We also took Lauren's kayaks out for a 3 hour paddle up the river. There was lots of wildlife and it was really fun to see some of the houses and cool little streams. The chickens that roam around the property were pretty funny to watch and interact with. Lauren was super nice and gave us a lot of great info about the surrounding towns before our trip and when we arrived. She had kindling laying around for us to use and checked in to make sure everything was ok. I would definitely recommend this site!
