This private campsite is just a short walk away from the most beautiful river trails. Dave built a deck and laid turf. He provided a bbq and some coals, and to our surprise there was a very nice generator (we had already brought one but good to know for next time) . The campsite was a little tricky to find but once we found it we loved it. It is all sand out there so 4 wheel drive or AWD are probably best. We had a great time and will absolutely rent again rather then staying in the park. Thanks, Dave :)

This is a remote residential site. As other reviews mentioned, it was very difficult to spot at night, so try to arrive while there is still daylight. 4WD HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Our Toyota Tacoma has all terrain tires, but is not 4WD; we got stuck in the sand the minute we pulled in. Took us several hours to get out. The wind was VERY strong and standard tent stakes were insufficient, as they kept pulling up. Buy beefed-up stakes and bring something to block the wind. The site itself was adequate with a deck (no tie-downs, though), artificial turf patch, grill, plastic wind break, generator.
High desert happiness!
The Lahontan Escape was wonderful. It's a great little spot near the river and reservoir. Perfect for people who love the high desert and nature. The location has a little deck and astroturf which helped a TON. Bring some shade, a hammock, and have some fun on the river.
The site can be a little tricky to find, especially if you arrive after dark (like I did). However, when I reached out to David, he was extremely helpful telling me how to find it. The campsite had more amenities than I was expecting, and was very well maintained.
Super convenient in an area with few options. The site was very nice with astroturf and decking and a generator. There were some nice desert views, but there were also some views of other lots with RVs, equipment, etc. so I we were happy to arrive after dark and leave early in the AM -- if we'd been staying longer, we would have been sad not to have the privacy we were hoping for. There was also an unsupervised neighbor dog who came to bark at our pup for the better part of 30 mins as we woke and broke camp. Clearly not something the host can help but a note for others who have dogs (the neighbor's Rottweiler seemed to be fenced)
This place is wonderful. The area was very homey and well-maintained. I've stayed here twice on my trips from Utah to California and back and I will definitely be booking again in the future! 4x4 highly recommended!
There is a spade and a shovel available. My 2WD van was stuck in the loose sand, and those tools were very valuable. However there is actually no need to drive through the loose sand, I parked next the road and enjoyed the wooden floor plateau by walking to it!
Site was clean and bare bones as described. Will note that there are a lot of fire ants if that is a problem for anyone! Nothing too interesting about the location, but if you are on a road trip and need an inexpensive place to crash for the night relatively near tahoe, this is a great option.
