Super remote, great stargazing

Way off the beaten path! We were glad we drove here in our vanagon on not our sedan. Super remote campsite, beautiful desert views all around, short walk to Lahontan Reservoir. The shipping crate helped block the wind which let us enjoy the fire pit for a bit. The stargazing at night was beautiful, as were the sunset and sunrise. Did not meet the host but they were responsive and provided super accurate directions. We would love to come back.

As usual for deserts there are extreme highs and extreme lows in temperature. We slept in our vanagon when the nighttime low was 34 degrees and slept perfectly fine (in the lower bed, not the tent top) under our two comforters. It wasn’t too hot during the stay either, but I can see it being a scorcher in the summer months. Shockingly few bugs or animals (one moth, one bunny). Saw some holes a few yards away so something does live nearby but didn’t bother us. We slept so well, it was so quiet, and so so beautiful.

P.S. Bring your own water (1 gallon per peraon per day) and your own camping toilet. We saw someone in a boat in the reservoir but did not try swimming in it because it was really cold in the morning.

Very quiet and peaceful with little disturbances. It rained the night before we arrived so the road to the site was drenched. I wouldn't take your sports car through here.

Secluded, very good for off leash dogs. Easy to start fires with dry brush. Helpful host.

Pictures are in area, but do not reflect campsite, disappointing.

So sorry you were disappointed! I made sure to update with more pictures to represent the site a little better. We did have the site on the hill a little closer to the lake but moved it due the the recent high winds we've been having. Thanks for posting your great photos! Love the one at night!

Very accurate description, not a lot here, but sometimes that's what's nice. I would've preferred no shipping container for aesthetic reasons, but it would've been too windy without it and our van blocking the fire. We drove our rear 2WD van there no problem right before sunset, bit of a rough ride, but the view of the stars at night alone was worth it. FWIW, got cell service on multiple carriers here.

Thanks for joining us Bryan! Wish we could get rid of the shipping container too 😉 but you're right about the wind. It's good to have a little wind block. So glad you enjoyed the stars! It's one of our favorite part about being out there as well.

This location was exactly what we were expecting. I love the desert and wanted seclusion, a beach, and a nice spot to relax. This is the DESERT.....bring desert stuff. Goggles, bandanas, good tents w/stakes, wood for your fire, etc. Walk to the beach that is just beautiful. We will be back!

Great spot to get out into the middle of the desert with no lights or noise. Rachel was great at communicating and helped us navigate. The road is a bit choppy to get out there, but it adds to the adventure :)
