The Lookout
The view is amazing. The road up is not for the faint of heart. The site needs some upkeep and clean up- the surface is mainly rocks, and there’s a bit too much in the way of discarded building materials and a derelict snowmobile to suit my camping taste. Others may decide the view (which is amazing) makes up for some of these other drawbacks, and while I did, my wife did not. With a bit more attention this site would be amazing even with the rough drive up and down.

The Lookout
It’s a great site with an amazing lookout over Missoula. The drive take about 20-30 minutes from town and some of that is on rutty, exposed gravel roads. Overall it was relatively secluded and a great camping spot.

The Lookout
I had great time car camping up at the Lookout. Marcy was a wonderful host- she had lots of great suggestions for things to do around town, and was very thoughtful about preparing me for the journey up to the lookout. Let me tell you- this road is not for the faint at heart. I was driving my Subaru outback, with just enough clearance, and some of the switchbacks made my stomach turn. I'd highly suggest 4wd and some calming music for your way up- but its totally worth it. Also, for peace of mind, I had full cell reception up there on the hill. I'd say this is the closest you can get to backpacking (peace, distance, views, no crying babies) while still having the luxury of car camping. The view is really breathtaking, especially at night when the city is all lit up. Highly suggest!!

The Lookout
The lookout was a great spot to camp. It’s obly half an hour from Missoula, with beautiful views of the mountains and of the city. The host, Marcy, was very kind and helpful, and all around wonderful. The road up is a little bumpy, but not too bad (maybe would avoid it if you’re afraid of heights though), and the views are amazing all the way up. Would definitely recommend staying here if you get the chance :)
