Pitch a tent or pull your smaller camper to a valley with views of the Elkhorn Mountains.  Stroll to a small Aspen grove with seasonally active stream through the field on a maintained path.  Cow Dog Camp is almost exactly half way between Glacier and Yellowstone National Parks, located at the cross roads of Hwy 69 and I15. We will gladly provide a gas or charcoal grill upon request, tables, and camp chairs.  Bicycles, tennis racquets, and croquet set also available upon request.   Safe drinkable water is provided and you will be shown where and how to access.   Your pets are welcome! Seasonally, a preset up tent with full size mattress is available.  (Check for availability when you message me so can get clean sheets on for you if available. Use your own sleeping bags/blankets. This tent is not considered one of the three sites, nor represented on the site map. We can chat about it or you can decide when you get here).  Depending on time of year/fire danger, the use of a screened fire pit is available at individual sites and the unscreened Communal Fire Pit may be used.  Sometimes fire wood is provided, but not guaranteed.  Porta potties are available seasonally in the two city parks within walking distance of  the property: Baseball diamonds directly across from land and  East Side Park, (head north west on Sherman to access both, East Side Park  is intersection of East 2nd and Parsons), with maintained lawn, playground, and the developing forest garden. Please remember that because we are in the Heart of Rocky Mountains, inclement weather/high winds can occur at any time and certain times of the year, mosquitos are abundant. We have found that white clothing, along with other deterrents to be effective. You can refresh yourself at The Boulder Hot Springs just a 5 minute drive to the south.  The night sky at Cow Dog Camp is uninterrupted. Enjoy prominent views of Crow peak, Bull Mountain, and Sugarloaf Mountain.  Land is undeveloped at this point, except around the main house.  A Seasonal stream, accessible by maintained flat trail,  flows through the north side of the property with  Aspen.  Active ranch land borders the north, east, and south sides of the  property with views of cattle year round.  An irrigation canal borders the east side of the property.  Elk, fox, Bald Eagle,  sandhill cranes and other variety of birds are often seen.   Our land is situated at the end of town. To the west you will see the town of Boulder, but turn any other direction and it feels like open land!   Day trips from Cow Dog Camp include Ringing Rocks, Bannack, Virginia City, Old Prison Museum in Deer lodge,  Lewis and Clark Caverns.  Several Hot Springs are within a days trip:  Boulder Hot Springs, (5 minutes away),Enjoy the rich history of that building: indoor and outdoor pools. Fairmont outside of Butte, Broadwater in Helena, and Jackson Hot Springs.  There are many trailheads, old railroads/tunnels, and boundless opportunities in the national forests surrounding Boulder, MT. Let's not forget the breweries!  Several breweries make for different day trip loops one can make going in any different, stopping every 1-2 hours at a new brewhouse. Borrow one of our bikes and enjoy a ride to The Boulder Hot Springs through beautiful ranch land,  take a cruise and play tennis at the free seasonal tennis courts, (ask & we will lend racquets and balls, we will also lend a croquet set for use!), cruise to Downtown Boulder, bike along the Boulder River or around the beautiful country roads all accessible from Cow Dog Camp.  Two ghost towns within an easy drive of location:  Comet, (10 miles) and Elkhorn, (18 miles),  that offer history and photographic opportunity. Both open year round and not the touristy type. You often will be the only one soaking up the space, the quiet, and the moment.  Boulder is also home to the Free Enterprise Radon Health mine and several more just 8 miles down the road in Basin. Basin is another interesting town with an amazing pizza joint The Leaning Tower, The Silver Saddle: local bar/restaurant, and health opportunities.  Situated between Butte and Helena, lots of opportunity to drive to the "city" and explore the rich historical heritages of each, enjoy food, and shopping.  Architecture in both are amazing, especially "uptown" Butte.   Plenty of birding opportunities in the lower valley, (Sandhill cranes, magpie, Western Tanagers, Eagles and other raptors, etc).  During the winter free cross country trails and snow mobile access abound.  Hunting in the Boulder Valley and Elkhorn area is considered some of the best in Southwest Montana as is the fishing.   Get lost in the quiet on your own little stretch of the Boulder River or among the many quiet roads and national forest.  Boulder has a diverse population of approx. 1200 that has an active community of volunteers,  a developing forest garden,  library,  grocery store, thrift store, heritage center, a few restaurants, two bars, and gas station all walkable from Cow Dog Camp. To the south, an active fairground with old fashioned carousel that comes alive for events, free Tai-Chi classes at the library, free seasonal tennis courts, several city parks, skate park, and nothing beats a Windsor steak!    Think of any thing else we can do for you?  Just ask!

Crystal was friendly, helpful, and accommodating. The property has beautiful views and it was fun to have cows as our neighbors! Will definitely come back as our dogs and little boy loved running around on the property.

Eric and family left the spot immaculate. We couldn't even tell they were there for 2 days. Recommend as guest! We hope to see this family again! I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay, Eric. We welcome you back anytime!

Cow Dog is a hip camp!
Nestled in a quiet valley close to Helena Montana and Butte America, Cow Dog Camp is surrounded by purple mountains majesty and gently rolling pastures. My dogs were welcomed, the hosts are witty and kind, and the price, it can’t be beat.
Slow down, and enjoy the view.
