My husband and I dreamed of having woods and nature. We found a way to make our dreams come true in May of 2017. Our jobs are in the city and so we compromised and bought 6.4 acres in the heart of Kansas City. We have dreamed of living off the grid. Our property is solar powered and we are only on the grid for water. We have some big plans for our camping area so check back in the future to see our progress! This campground is almost 2 acres and surrounded by trees...yet you are 3 minutes from a Hyvee, Sonic, Subway, Olive Garden, and many other restaurants and stores. We are located 6 miles from the Chiefs and Royals Stadiums. On our little campground you can hear the sounds of the city, but feel like you are also in the country. We occasionally see deer and other wild life. We are zoned agricultural and and so are the neighbors to the South. We wanted to save this area to help support the wild life that has been trapped inside of city limits. There is a public metro transit 3 blocks from the property. It is Kansas City Metro stop 251. We recently leveled out a few places and you can see where the tractor drove. You will want to look at the photo that has the parking, camping, trash, and spigot posted.

The vibe at Urban Campground @ Avalon Acres
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
Our stay at Avalon Acres was very comfortable and perfect for what we needed! The campsite is a wide open area with lots of room for spreading out and setting up your tent. There is a picnic table available, which was nice for cooking meals and sitting out to chat. There is also a HUGE fire pit right next to where we set up our tent, which was perfect! The campsite area had lots of trees bordering the area, which was nice to make it feel a bit more secluded and private. The host was very kind and helpful, giving us a tour of everything! There is a blacksmith workshop on the property and he gave us a tour of the workshop, which was super fun to get an inside look into that! We definitely recommend staying here! :)
A slice of private nature in the center of it all. Close to the 70, close to shops and coffee. Linda was a gracious host and showed me around town since I had never been to Missouri before, she's a history buff and can tell you everything about the area. Loved the treehouse, the fire pit and visiting the baby chicks. Thanks for hosting me!
We enjoyed staying at this campsite. It was awesome to find a site within the city that also offered a serene green space. Linda’s directions were especially helpful since we didn’t get in until well after dark.
