Eclipse Camp on Route 66
Secluded,peaceful, with cool stars!
Met with a friendly greeting from Connie and the dogs. The site was secluded, in woodland next to an open field , with a rake thoughtfully provided for clearing leaves and plenty of freshly cut logs ready for the firepit. There was a pit toilet nearby, though we weren’t brave enough to try the outdoor shower in October! The field provides amazing star gazing at night . There is some distant noise from the highway and the railroad, but the site is distant from the farmhouse and feels remote and peaceful. We had a great time and would recommend this campsite.

What a convenient site to stay for the night - right off the highway. We camped in the woods adjacent to the large meadows and were grateful for the fire pit and abundant wood.

Eclipse Camp on Route 66
Beautiful skies as promised
Wow, "Star Gazer Field" does not do it justice! The site where we choose to set up was in the woods, only about 10 feet back - enough to have a wind break, but close enough to the charming outhouse for late night usage.
The campfire area was ample and finding firewood wasn't an issue at all. Several options for short hikes around the property and incredibly friendly dogs make for an enjoyable afternoon.
But the stars are the true joy of this spot! I made sure to download Google's Sky Map before arriving (but it turns out both AT&T and T-Mobile had full coverage). We were able to find several constellations and planets, but plan well - we went with a nearly full moon and didn't need flashlights to walk around; the best star gazing was much later when the moon went behind the trees.
All in all, a wonderful experience and I look forward to coming back next year (if not sooner, weather permitting)!

Connie was a wonderful host. We got there pretty late, but she kept in touch with us and made sure we had a map and directions to her site in case we lost signal. The way into the campsite was easy. The only downside was that it was pretty scary at night with no lights in the middle of the woods, and we were the only ones there. I would recommend putting some lights to point out the campsite so first time visitors feel somewhat safe when they are coming late at night.
