About Eclipse Paradise at Selby Farm
These are premium sites because you will be camping with other Hipcampers and will have things to do that are fun! You would be in the middle of the path of totality. Over two and a half minutes of Totality! This is a private 30 acre property where a limited amount of Hipcamp approved campers will set up. The nearest neighbors live 1/4 mile away. Almost no traffic on the gravel road. You can choose from the following options as you see a fit for your party. Specify a location you want, and I will remove it from the offering. If you see another location that is not spoken for feel free to ask. This is a 30 acre property---you could have ACRES to yourself if you want. See our farm website by searching for Selby Farm Horse Retirement. There are more pictures, maps, and videos. You can also find our farm facebook page from the website.
In addition to camping, you can walk a trail to our OTHER 30 acres and visit the treehouse. There is a cool old bridge (closed) nearby that appears terrifying, but locals fish from it. You can walk, bike, or ride your horse on our county road. The WORLD famous Katy Trail is a biking/walking trail that was re-purposed from a railroad. It is about a 15 minute drive away. There is fishing on public ground at the Petite Saline creek. See other details later in this listing.
Site 1--- Sleep with or without a tent IN the barn loft for added protection from the elements. Enjoy a gorgeous view out of the loft doors. The large 5' by 8' doors are screened giving protection from insects. You must be able to climb steep stairs to access the loft. There is a "Johnny-on-the spot" 75 yards from the barn. A small portable toilet is available in the loft for night time scaredy-cats, but we prefer you use the Johnny on the Spot. Electricity and water are available at one location nearby.
Site 2---Plug in your RV to our new 30 amp 110V outlet and high quality water supply. Shade is available if you have a 100' cord. You can also pick from a variety of locations if you don't need electricity.
Site 4---Booked for 18th and 19th
Sites 3, and 5--- Three sites available. Pitch your tent on a site of your choosing within the designated area. Drive up access, nice view to the south. Not far from the toilet.
Site 6---Do you like a woods setting. This site has a great view of the wooded valley. We intend this location to have a tiny house or cabin someday. An extra 100' of walking to the restroom. Also you will want to step out for totality...or will you?? Maybe it's better in the woods:)

The vibe at Eclipse Paradise at Selby Farm
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
Doug and Brenda were super nice and cordial to me and my daughter while camping at his place. The field is atop a hill and has a great view of the surrounding area. The Great Oak Tree was a a wonderful spot to get some shade, light a fire, and make a meal. The farm has friendly horses, chickens, cats, and dogs. Doug might even let you grab a fresh egg or two from the roost!
This was a nice secluded farm right next to the Missouri River. Doug was an excellent host, 5 star hospitality, we felt right at home from the start. I was with my daughter and a couple of friends and we camped by the barn on the hill. Nice fresh water spigot with a concrete slab located near the barn. My daughter got to help feed the horses up by the house, as we gathered some firewood from the wood pile. Doug even let my daughter take an artifact he had just found back to campsite, we cleaned it up and it was really neat looking. He told us that it could have come from any of 9 tribes of indigenous people that have called this region home over the past 10,000 years. We camped under a beautiful nighttime sky with a good view of the Milky Way and we even saw some meteors.
The Eclipse was our first visit to the Show-Me State. Our mission was to be in the path of Totality and get a clear view. The morning of the 21st we were preparing to take the trail between the pastures to Big Oak Treehouse to watch the eclipse, when suddenly 3 hours before totality, cloud cover started blowing in from the west. So we broke camp and headed southeast along the Missouri River towards Jefferson City. We basically had the road to ourselves, kind of like our own private drive to a clear view of the eclipse straight from Selby Farm. And yes we did make it to a clear view of Totality. It was an incredible* experience.
After the eclipse, we stopped back by the farm to get our gear and say goodbye, unfortunately, we did not get to see the rest of paradise as we had a long trek back home that day. But my family will be back, our dog will be coming along too! (Note: If you want a good picture of Radar the farm dog, you might want to bring a high speed camera.) Next time we want to stay at Big Oak Treehouse!
We indeed found Paradise deep in the heart of Missouri on Doug and Brenda's farm. It made for a great Eclipse experience we will always remember.
Doug and Brenda Selby were wonderful hosts, and we look forward to returning and staying at Big Oak Treehouse.
The Eclipse brought us to Missouri, Selby Farm will bring us back.
Doug and Brenda were very kind. They let us use the wifi just outside of their house at the picnic table. It is very pleasant under the trees with a breeze as their house is at the top of the hill. We camped in a pasture down below where it was hotter. The telephone pole has 110 electricity to which we plugged our teardrop camper. There is a portapotty and a plastic table with a faucet to which a water hose is attached--a communal sink, basically. Doug had also put out a horse trough so we could bathe or take a dip to cool ourselves which was greatly appreciated as there are no showers. There are no stores close by--only gas stations so bring everything you need including a grill for steaks. They do have fire rings but no grates.
