We had such (!) a magical time at Boss Mare Ranch with Sandy and Scott as our hosts! We came on Saturday evening and Sandy kept in touch the whole way through, even meeting us at the gate when we arrived! There are several sites available ~ all beautiful! ~ we chose the far site with the huge, gorgeous fire pit next to the foundation remains of a 19th century church. At night, we saw shooting stars and of course, fireflies blinking against the quiet darkness. Such blissful privacy! Sandy is THE horse guru ~ her ribbons and prizes on the wall, her humor and experience and wisdom, her energy and passion for animals just seep into every inch of this fabulous property. My ten year old son declared Boss Mare Ranch "heaven" ~ and we completely agree. On Sunday morning, we took a trail ride (a very reasonable discount for HipCamp participants!) through the fields, woods, and meadows. I could have ridden all day, listening to Sandy's stories and looking out over miles and miles of gorgeous Ozarks nature. She and Scott let us help prepare the horses, teaching and guiding us each step of the way. Their four dogs are as sweet as can be (our son wanted to take them all home!) and the horses roam freely in the property. The most magical night was Sunday night as we took a long walk around the well-kept trails, encountering the horses as they grazed the grassy meadows, taking sips from the pond. They greeted us like old friends ~ which we felt we were, by then! We could hardly bring ourselves to leave on Monday morning ~ thankfully, we had a long goodbye with the horses and Sandy, enjoying a cool morning breeze as we petted Lady and Kady and sweet Marcel ~ these horses just find a way right into your heart. So much gratitude for a beautiful weekend. We will absolutely (!) be returning to this "slice of heaven" (as both Sandy and Scott, and also my little son describe Boss Mare Ranch).

On a practical note: the bathroom is in the barn, very close and easily walkable/driveable, including a sink with cold and hot water. We brought our own tent, folding table/chairs, and food for the weekend, and it was perfect. An easy and lovely access to the Niangua River is just minute away down the scenic farm road. Truly, this is our best camping experience, ever.

Boss Mare Ranch is a beautiful piece of land. We camped with our children for Father’s Day and took them on their first float on the Niangua. River access is only a few miles from the campsite. The property is beautifully kept with picturesque rolling hills and very private campsites. We had two nights of some heavy thunderstorms roll through and felt very protected in our site with the fir tree lines as a wind break. We had fire wood at our site upon arrival and only had to scavenge a bit the second night. My son and husband caught and released several fish in the stocked pond and loved getting to catch some fish together. My preteen daughter enjoyed being able to go a short distance across the field to an actual bathroom 🙂Between the beautiful scenery, big open sky, and the beautiful horses roaming around we will definitely be going back! What a wonderful weekend! Thank you!

My son fell in love with some tiny frogs. They have been named and we will be returning to visit them in the future! Enough area for multiple tents in this one site and still spread out. Beautiful sunsets!Plenty of open flat surface for tents.

We very much enjoyed our stay! Very Private campsite surrounded by Pines. It smelled sooo good! Host was very helpful and pleasant. Easy to find and close enough to town in case you burn your steaks and need fast food. Lol! Close to the river for swimming! Would definitely recommend this to a friend!!

Playing in the Niangua. 3-4min away from site. Great fire pit!! Plenty of room to play!

Sandra and Scott were such great hosts! They took an interest in our kids and gave them a memorable experience with the horses and fishing and just being on the land. The horses were so sweet and really loved the kids. They have some beautiful land and it is great that they are sharing it with others!

We had a fantastic weekend van-camping at Boss Mare. Sandy and Scott were very kind and made sure we were doing alright, even after a couple days of rain! The campsite was very private and secluded with a large fire pit. A few minutes walk to the barn offered a toilet and large sink for washing dishes. We didn’t utilize the fishing or horseback riding, but both were available. Rain or not, we had a perfect weekend and definitely enjoyed our time at Boss Mare. Thanks, Sandy and Scott!

The horses gathered around to say goodbye to us as we were leaving A perfect anniversary weekend at Boss Mare! One of Sandy and Scott’s sweet dogs tagged along when they visited our campsite to check in on us after all the rain The horses gathered around to say goodbye to us as we were leavingBeautiful landscape walking to the barn

I love the Boss Mare Ranch, and Sandra is one hell of a boss lady! She’s so kind and hardworking. The campsites are nice...snuggled in along the tree lines of the horse pastures. The horses and dogs are so cute. We loved star gazing by the fireside. Took a wonderful horse ride through the pastures and woodland near sunset and saw lots of birds including 2 indigo buntings! We look forward to coming back with our friends and family!

The kids said, “the best campsite ever!” 2 families with 4 tents filled the largest campsite with ample room to play, set up a kitchenette, and not feel crowded. The site is isolated and primitive (in a good way) and the ground was flat. The only thing we should have done was bring a 5 gallon water container. The barn with water was a 5 minute trek, and we made many trips.

The hosts are amazing. We opted to go horseback riding. Sandy is an excellent instructor and trail guide. She was relaxed and laid back without neglecting safety. We had too many to go in one trip, so she took one group on an evening/night trip and another on a sunrise trip. The horses are the best I’ve ever ridden, very friendly to each other and the riders.

We also took a day trip to the Niangua River to cool off in the heat of the day. There was a nice rocky beachy island to walk on and a nice current to float down.

Large flat campsite. Sunset trail ride. My daughter on Lady. Sandy helping my son adjust his stirrups.

My 5 yr old camped, fished and rode horses all for the first time. Sandra couldn’t have been more accommodating. Even going as far as to secure a tow truck when I locked my keys in the car with it running and my phone inside. 🤦‍♂️ All happening at 6:45 am. A very secluded area with friendly dogs, friendly horses and friendly fish(yes he caught one!).

Would highly recommend you try this place. Great family atmosphere!
