A "Gosherd" is to Geese, as a "Shepherd" is to Sheep.The land: Gosherd Valley Cottage is on an 80 acre working farm. There are roads to walk and fields to ramble about in. We raise free range geese and poultry watched over by Livestock Guardian Dogs. We are one of only a handful of goose farms in the country and take pride in our Animal Welfare Approved certification, raising our animals sustainably and humanely for our clients. We are just 20 minutes from all the great Hermann area micro-breweries, wineries, distilleries and meaderies. We have smokehouses and producers all around us, so you will never go hungry. You can enjoy being in a rural area of local producers, antique stores and great festivals. If you are staying in the B&B, the kitchen is stocked with everything you need to make two breakfasts for you or your group. Our fresh eggs, local smokehouse bacon, pastries and jams, are stocked in the kitchen for your convenience. Our farm's chickens & geese are available to purchase or cook in the cottage, just ask me to defrost one for you before your arrival. So stay here and enjoy a cozy restored cottage (the original homestead) and venture off on day trips to our little towns. We are all about local products and business's. Your Host: Connie Cunningham lives on site in the rehabbed barn and oversees the daily work of the farm. Her 6 livestock guardian dogs work alongside her daily while her snarky cat "Grimble" will spend most of his time trying to get you to pet him. A retired landscape designer and color consultant from Chgo, she is involved with the local agritourism efforts and promoting local foods. She can point you in the right directions for little local eateries, festivals, stores and craftsmen. The 80 acre farm was originally a vineyard, prior to Prohibition. Afterwards, it was put into a pasture-based system and had cattle on it with the homestead being used as a seasonal hunting cabin. The current owner's mom was a local artist in St Louis who upgraded the cottage into a year-round house she could retire to. Her daughters, Connie & Chris, then upgraded the cottage into a bed and breakfast while starting the goose farm on the land. Next year (2016) the bottom floor of the barn will be available for larger group-stays and three new campsites will be available for those wanting a more outdoorsy experience; one rustic site in the woods, one semi rustic in the high pasture for the star gazers and one glamping site at the lake.

Lakeside Campsite #4

My husband and I camped at Connie’s for a night and absolutely loved it! Beautiful property with a great water view, amazing host (she even offered to bring us a heater since it was a cold night and a coffee pot!) We loved getting to see the all the animals! We’ll be back again in the Spring for sure once it warms up!

Solar Eclipse Event at the farm

We had a great time at Gosherd Valley Farm for the Eclipse Event. The host Connie is friendly and helpful and the farm is on a breathtaking piece of land with amazing views. We didn’t stay in the cottage (we camped) but we got a tour of it and it’s really lovely. Highly recommend!

High pasture campsite #1

We didn't actually stay at High Pasture campsite #1, but the host set us up in a site that better fit our needs with children. We were in the farm yard, close to the bathroom and had ample shade for the hot summer day. We went to the High Pasture to view the eclipse and it was a great spot for viewing!

Lakeside Campsite #4

We made a spontaneous decision to camp at the farm for the 2017 solar eclipse, and had an incredible experience. Connie is a delightful and thoughtful host (and an engaging conversationalist). The farm is beautiful. We enjoyed swimming, meeting all of her animal friends (shout out to Sam, Max, and Keith), and basking in the beautiful scenery. Loved it so much that we plan on returning later this fall. Thanks, Connie!

High pasture campsite #1

I was in a low pasture temporary site for eclipse camping, not the main high pasture site listed. All of the camp sites are excellent. This is on a working farm, and the owner is incredibly nice. You don't realize from Google maps that when you come in on the driveway into the farm, the whole farm is situated in a beautiful deep valley. High pasture sites overlook the breathtaking valley view. Low pasture and lakeside sites are at the bottom and much closer to the farm house. There are water hydrants near the camp sites, and electrical access by the lake. There is a small spring fed lake available to campers to get out of the summer heat. Fire rings are limited to permanent camp sites and not to sites located in dry hay fields due to fire concerns. The owner also had composting toilets with privacy shelters near camp sites for the campers. There was a nice group of other campers for the solar eclipse, viewing was fantastic, and altogether it was a wonderful experience. Hope to stay there again if passing through.
