About Echo Lake Bison Ranch
Image waking up in the middle of the night and the only thing you hear is the water of Echo Lake splashing against the shoreline.
You might also might hear one of the native birds, like an owl, communicating this to his friend across the ridge. The sounds of the city are gone, allowing you to look up into the sky and see thousands of stars above your head.
Welcome to Echo Lake Bison Ranch.
This primitive campsite is located 30 miles northwest of Columbia, Missouri in Howard County, away from all the hustle and bustle of city life. Pitch your tent anywhere you desire within the 70-acre ranch-near the lake, in the timbers or at one of the tree campsites that have fire rings. We'll even provide two large bundles of firewood for you.. Additional firewood can be purchased for a small fee.
While you're here, you're welcome to hike around the property. You might see some of central-Missouri wonderful wildlife:
-red and silver fox
-Bald eagle and other predatory birds
-other native Missouri birds
Other things you might find along your hike include coal (the original lake mined coal), Native American arrow heads and granite boulders. You're also welcome to bring a fishing pole-no fishing license required. Echo lake is 10 acres and home to bass, crappie, blue gill and grass carp.
In the next couple of years, a America Bison herd will once again return to the land. We're preparing by growing native grasses, such as Indian Grass, switch Grass, Lespedeza, Blue Stem and Fescue grass.
