Nestled into 80 undisturbed wooded acres in the Ozarks, Dockley Ranch provides unique getaway opportunities. Here, you will meet free-roaming alpacas, pastured goats, chickens, dogs and cats. During the growing season, partake in the bounties of organically grown produce on a stroll next to the garden koi pond. Well-marked hiking trails lead from the house and garden through the woods, down to Columbine Falls and up through maturing oak stands. Pull up a stool at the private Lafferty Cabin Bar along the trail to watch the sun set over the rugged Ozark hills. This newly constructed tavern resides under the preserved roof of an historic 19th century log cabin. Located 30 minutes from Ava, the “Treasure of the Ozarks,” and 1 hour from Springfield, Branson, and Mansfield, Dockley Ranch stands as an intentional preserve of natural beauty and peace of mind.
Our hilltop cabin, accessible by car, but on a gravel road, has a double bed on the ground level, a double bed up in the sleeping loft, and a twin bed in the sleeping loft. This cabin has electricity, but no indoor toilet or sink. Our rainwater catchment tank can be used for hand-washing and cold water showering. A flush toilet is a short walk away at the pavilion bathhouse [Flushing toilets are closed for the season - Composting toilet only.] On a Saturday night, head to the Oldfield Opry for local music and open jam session. There are 3 other places near the cabin to pitch a tent, or hike into the woods for the camp site of your choice.

The vibe at Dockley Ranch Hilltop Cabin
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
Dockley Ranch is a great place to detox and relax in Missouri. This property is absolutely beautiful and serene; every inch of it is a lush green, with no trace of urban lights or sounds. Claire and her husband are very friendly hosts and cooked us a delicious meal of vegetarian tacos, with ingredients that they grew themselves in their garden! Guests stay in their hilltop cabin, an extremely cute little shelter that has a sink system outside with running water. It’s sturdy, comfortable, warm, and clean. You can either sleep in the main bed, or climb up into the loft area to sleep on mattresses. My friends and I spent an evening walking around the property and just soaking in how overwhelmingly green and quiet the area is. Unfortunately our stay landed on a stormy night, but I'm sure that on a clear night it would have been the perfect place to kick back, crack open a beer, and gaze at the stars.
Last but not least, if you love animals—this is the place for you. Claire and her family raise a ton of chickens, dogs, cats, goats and….alpacas!
One note: The roads in the area are pretty brutal on tires so make sure to drive painstakingly slow or with all-wheel drive up to the cabin. Either way, be mindful of your tires!
We had such an amazing escape from reality at the hill top cabin! The views were incredible and it was so nice being able to hike to the cute waterfall and all of mark twain’s National Forrest right behind the property! waking up to the alpacas in the morning was so funny, we had an overall amazing experience, if you’re considering going, just do it!
My husband and I stayed here recently and loved it! Claire and her husband were great and ready to help us with anything we neeed, we really appreciated that. We stayed for about 4 days and never left once, no need to. Would go again!
