Once a country school built in 1938 and used into the 1960s, this property with 5 wooded acres surrounded by pasture and farmland, has been our family home since 1982. We are less than 10 minutes from I-94 , Lake Wobegon bike trail, St John's University, Avon Hills Folk School, county parks with hiking trails , and lots of lakes. Fire ring, and picnic table on each site. Learn more about this land: We provide a walk-in only,  primitive, private camping experience. Pitch your tent in our woods, just a short walk in from the road. Campsite 1 is close to the road and house,  just about  50 paces in from the road. Campsite 2 is farther into the woods, uphill and offers more privacy. The night and early morning sounds can be incredible! Coyotes, owls, loons,  frogs, sandhill cranes, wild turkey, cattle, sheep and chickens too.                While we currently do not have many amenities, we do offer  a get away from humanity, darkness , nature sounds , and   campfires.   While our property does not include a lake , there are many within a few short miles. The small town of Avon on 1-94 is just 3 1/2 miles away. It offers access to the 65 mile long Lake Wobegon bike trail, the Avon beach,  a fishing pier, and legendary "Fisher's Club" , home of the best darn walleye, all  on Middle Spunk Lake.  St John's University is a few short scenic miles away.   Hiking trails, maple syrup festival, bird watching, fall colors , and many more reasons to visit this Benedictine campus. Stearns county has 8 county parks with miles of hiking trails.  Birdwatching is excellent year around. Avon Hills Folk School is little over a mile away. El Rancho Manana is within 8 miles and offers horseback riding.

Site 2 - The Country School,Avon,MN
Nice getaway
Pulled into the driveway and went straight to the site, did not have any contact with the owner. It is a little walk up the hill for site 2 but was well worth it. The site is on top of the hill overlooking the pasture, heavily wooded and you can't see the house or the other site. Our privacy was well respected although we were greeted and shown around by a dog named Samsquanch who was friendly and a joy to be around but left after an hour or so of hanging out. You will get a lot of noises at night as there are cows, coyotes, deer, sheep, and roosters around. Overall we really enjoyed our stay here, it was a nice getaway.

Great site. Easy walk to the site. Nice sleeping pad. The table and candles were a great surprise. We loved hearing the birds and cows in the morning. Thanks for the great spot.

I had a lovely time staying at The Country School. The property is very lush and beautiful and our hosts were helpful in guiding us to the campsite. Be aware that Google Maps may not be 100% accurate with the directions. Thanks, Brenda!

This is primitive camping. The sites were very far apart, and it was very quiet. There was wood to use in the fire pit, a table with a couple of chairs, and a flat space for our tent. We liked it.

Enjoyed our night! The campsite was set up very cute with a table and chairs and a fire pit. There was wood, fire starter stuff and a nice private bathroom area. We would definitely go back if visiting the area!

Great escape into nature
Me and my 13 year-old son really enjoyed our one night of camping here. We got a little exercise getting to the second site, which was more secluded and very quiet. My teenager said the exercise was worth it (that is saying something!). We had a good breeze (the site was up higher in the woods) and the bugs weren't too bad. Overnight and in the morning, we had a lot of sounds of nature (bird calls I've never heard) and saw a fox and a deer not too far from our campsite, which was pretty cool. If it ever rained, this would be a good site to be at, with all of the tree cover. We went to the public beach in Avon to swim (within 10 minutes), but otherwise stayed at our site. There were some cool trails to walk. Our host set up the campsite really nice (plenty of firewood) including a table and chairs. Definitely want to return here.
