Mariposa is the largest of our three beautiful sites. A grassy area for your tent is surrounded by white pine, maple and fruit trees, and includes a fire ring so you can make s'mores under the stars. Mariposa overlooks a butterfly garden and is the closest to the bathroom. You'll see plenty of wildlife, including birds, deer and the occasional raccoon. Covered composting toilet, hand-washing sink and recycling bin shared by all campers.

Please note that this is a small campground that is run privately by homeowners, who live on site.

Discover nearby towns of Scandia (2 miles), which has miles of bike paths along ponds and lakes, and Marine on St. Croix (4 miles), a lovely historic village with an award-winning chocolate shop, wood-fired pizza, wine, ice cream, as well as the state's oldest operating general store (complete with wooden floorboards) Fifteen minutes south is Stillwater and 15 minutes north is Taylors Falls and even more state parks.

Robyn and Diedrie(?) were very welcoming and gave clear instructions on the use of the composting toilet and indications to look for to know they were home if we needed anything.
The toilet house was clean and also stored supplies for fire starting, cleaning, a few games for rainy days, and a few other things to borrow if needed.
They have three sites that are part of their backyard. Plenty of tree coverage for shade and each site has a fire pit. The sites are not separated/as private as we were expecting, but each does have plenty of space. All three sites were used throughout the weekend we were there (Memorial Weekend) and everyone was respectable of the shared backyard space we were set up in.
Short drive to Marine on St Croix which has a general store, ice cream shop, bar/restaurant, wine and chocolate bar, and a few other things. Willam O'Brien State Park is also very close for those interested in hiking trails or beach access.
We would stay again if we plan to explore more of the area another time.

Our hosts were friendly and helpful. We had storms coming through the area and they made sure we knew the plans for shelter in case anything severe occurred and kept us updated on the forecast also.
The Mariposa site is good sized and nicely flat. The butterfly garden is beautiful - we saw Monarchs and hummingbirds several times!
I was impressed by the toilet facilities and amenities provided. The only thing that would have been a valued addition is a picnic table.

This campsite is good for what it is! And, it'd be key to know in advance what to expect. I like that it's so close to the cities, and near a beautiful wild river with many big state parks on both sides of the river, little towns nearby, and plenty to see and do. If what you want is a place to sleep, and you don't plan to hang out at the campsite all day, this place is a good leaping-off-from spot for adventures elsewhere. All the 4 sites were very well-provisioned and the site is thoughtfully cared for by the host, Robyn. The one thing to know before you go is that it's not so private, especially when all the other sites are being used. Everyone shares one very fancy, non-smelly outhouse with a composting toilet. One of the sites is in view of the rear of the house, and some sites are visible to the others. There are woods all around the yard so the neighbors' houses aren't visible. In general there's a "camping in a big backyard" kind of feeling to the situation. That said, a lot of the State Park Campgrounds fill up WAY in advance, so it's really good to know this is a nearby option. And Robyn is really nice.
