Mariposa has a grassy area for your tent, is surrounded by white pine, maple and fruit trees, and includes a fire ring so you can make s'mores under the stars. Mariposa overlooks a butterfly garden and is the closest to the bathroom. You'll see plenty of wildlife, including birds, deer and the occasional raccoon. Covered composting toilet shared by 2 campsites and cleaned and disinfected daily.

Please note that this is a small camping area that is run privately by homeowners, who live on site. It is a good match for those wanting to quietly connect with nature. We do not have any playground equipment for children.

Discover nearby towns of Scandia (2 miles), which has miles of bike paths along ponds and lakes, and Marine on St. Croix (4 miles), a lovely historic village with an award-winning chocolate shop, wood-fired pizza, wine, ice cream, as well as the state's oldest operating general store (complete with wooden floorboards) Fifteen minutes south is Stillwater and 15 minutes north is Taylors Falls and even more state parks.

This campsite is good for what it is! And, it'd be key to know in advance what to expect. I like that it's so close to the cities, and near a beautiful wild river with many big state parks on both sides of the river, little towns nearby, and plenty to see and do. If what you want is a place to sleep, and you don't plan to hang out at the campsite all day, this place is a good leaping-off-from spot for adventures elsewhere. All the 4 sites were very well-provisioned and the site is thoughtfully cared for by the host, Robyn. The one thing to know before you go is that it's not so private, especially when all the other sites are being used. Everyone shares one very fancy, non-smelly outhouse with a composting toilet. One of the sites is in view of the rear of the house, and some sites are visible to the others. There are woods all around the yard so the neighbors' houses aren't visible. In general there's a "camping in a big backyard" kind of feeling to the situation. That said, a lot of the State Park Campgrounds fill up WAY in advance, so it's really good to know this is a nearby option. And Robyn is really nice.

Robyn and Diedrie(?) were very welcoming and gave clear instructions on the use of the composting toilet and indications to look for to know they were home if we needed anything.
The toilet house was clean and also stored supplies for fire starting, cleaning, a few games for rainy days, and a few other things to borrow if needed.
They have three sites that are part of their backyard. Plenty of tree coverage for shade and each site has a fire pit. The sites are not separated/as private as we were expecting, but each does have plenty of space. All three sites were used throughout the weekend we were there (Memorial Weekend) and everyone was respectable of the shared backyard space we were set up in.
Short drive to Marine on St Croix which has a general store, ice cream shop, bar/restaurant, wine and chocolate bar, and a few other things. Willam O'Brien State Park is also very close for those interested in hiking trails or beach access.
We would stay again if we plan to explore more of the area another time.

Our hosts were friendly and helpful. We had storms coming through the area and they made sure we knew the plans for shelter in case anything severe occurred and kept us updated on the forecast also.
The Mariposa site is good sized and nicely flat. The butterfly garden is beautiful - we saw Monarchs and hummingbirds several times!
I was impressed by the toilet facilities and amenities provided. The only thing that would have been a valued addition is a picnic table.

Great little camp that is located minutes from two state parks. Hosts were great and had the site freshly mowed when we got there.
The site was really well laid out.

Great stay! Even though the campsites were not super far from the house, it still felt private. Robyn was great about being available to answer questions when we needed it. Thanks!

Robyn and Deeadra were excellent hosts, and did a great job showing us to our camping area of the three that they have on their property. The size of the campsite, location to parking in their driveway, and state of the outhouse all exceeded our expectations. The Mariposa campsite is relatively close and within line of sight to the back of their house, but we felt we had more privacy than we would have had at a standard campground. They even offered us farm fresh eggs to use for breakfast! :)

This property is a nature lovers dream. The yard is landscaped beautifully with butterfly gardens and fruit trees. Wide varieties of mushrooms and native flowers are enjoyable to view. The happy chickens made us smile. There was a road nearby hidden by woods which didn't bother us at all. The property is not massive, but don't let that keep you from staying here.
The location is a wonderful jumping off point to many wonderful spots like the cute town of Marine on St. Croix, with it's ice cream shop and General Store. Franconia Art Park and Interstate Park are close.
Looking forward to my next visit. Highly recommended!
