We are a working off-the-grid Winery and Vineyard, featuring herbicide-free and pesticide-free wines and home made maple syrup, solar and wind 12 volt electric power and working water windmill, housed in a 1920s barn. Winery is open Friday 3-6 pm; Saturday 11 am-6 pm; and Sunday Noon-3 pm. Campers can request wine tastings and service anytime if available.

There is 20 acres of land, you can pick your campsite most anywhere you like. There are three acres of grape vines you can camp in or walk through. A one acre wind-aerated lake for swimming, boating and camping around. Eight acres of open hay land for larger RVs. Six acres of groomed woods for backwoods camping. We supply your firewood, in moderation, shallow water hand pump wells for water, pumpable primitive toilets, boat landing and dock.

We are located within one mile of public access to Mille Lacs Lake and the Soo Line ATV hiking and biking trail. Two miles from city of Isle and all its amenities. Three miles from Father Hennepin State Park. Many restaurants, bars, and fishing resorts in the area within ten miles.

Wild life viewing is great from birds to bears, we have even had the white deer walk through our vineyard. Gravel pits near with great agate picking. While this is as remote and serene as a place can be close to civilization, ongoing vineyard activities take place seven days a week.

ATV use to and from campsite only, with a 5 mph speed limit. All campsites are accessible by bike across mowed grass. Please be respectful and use mowed trails. No cutting live trees; taking dead and downed wood is acceptable.

It was a nice enough place, but we would not have stayed there had I known there would be a yellow flag flying over our campsite promoting 2nd amendment fear mongering. Certainly their right to fly it, just wish we would have known in advance. Now you can make your decision accordingly. Didn’t see an American Flag flying anywhere unfortunately.

Response from Mike & Betty, the Host, on June 6th, 2020

Scott sorry you were upset, you could have mentioned it to me, I would have enlightened you. To correct your comment there is a United States Flag at the entrance to our vineyard on a thirty foot pole and one on our road sign on the hwy. Both are solar lighted and fly proudly twenty-four seven, and have since we opened for business! If you would take the time to research the yellow flag in question, Gadsden Flag, you would find it has nothing to do with fear mongering or the second amendment. Designed in 1775, I believe, it was before the Declaration of Independence or any amendments. In addition our family has a direct connection to that flag as explained by my Uncle below. The Gadsden Flag was named after Col. Christopher Gadsen, Commander or the first U.S. Continental Navy (Marines) and one of America’s earliest patriots. Gadsden stood up for his beliefs and his fellow Americans. FLY THE GADSDEN FLAG HIGH Mike DeCoursey. It is the flag that, no doubt, flew on the mast of the U.S.S. Trumbull, that your 4th great-grandfather, David Lockwood, served on during the American Revolutionary War. I have much information on David Lockwood and his Revolutionary War service on land and sea He is one of my Sons of the American Revolution patriots. The family Bible of his son (your 3rd great-grandfather), is in the possession of your cousin, Bill. After the Revolutionary war, Judge David Lockwood was appointed as a Federal Justice for the area covering what is now Virginia, West Virginia and Ohio. I included a short biography on his memorial page at https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/39804070/david-lockwood This was written by my Uncle Bill DeCoursey Sr. In December 1775, Benjamin Franklin published an essay in the Pennsylvania Journal under the pseudonym American Guesser in which he suggested that the rattlesnake was a good symbol for the American spirit: "I recollected that her eye excelled in brightness, that of any other animal, and that she has no eye-lids—She may therefore be esteemed an emblem of vigilance.—She never begins an attack, nor, when once engaged, ever surrenders: She is therefore an emblem of magnanimity and true courage.—As if anxious to prevent all pretensions of quarreling with her, the weapons with which nature has furnished her, she conceals in the roof of her mouth, so that, to those who are unacquainted with her, she appears to be a most defenseless animal; and even when those weapons are shown and extended for her defense, they appear weak and contemptible; but their wounds however small, are decisive and fatal:—Conscious of this, she never wounds till she has generously given notice, even to her enemy, and cautioned him against the danger of stepping on her.—Was I wrong, Sir, in thinking this a strong picture of the temper and conduct of America?" The flag pole our Gadsden Flag flys from is part of the structure I designed and built to carry the wind pond aerator, and give visitors a great overlook spot. I stand firmly to the words "Don't Tread On Me"!

I can’t say enough good things about our stay at Mike and Betsy’s place. The land was beautiful and wonderfully taken care of, and we had our choice of all of the unoccupied camping sites. My kids, ages 10 and four, had a blast, and were happy to spend all day in the lake. We all had fun using the rowboat and paddleboat, and enjoyed seeing frogs, fish, toads, snakes and turtles.

Mike came out with a tractor and wagon to give us a tour of the land and Vineyard, and let the kids hop out to explore all the little outbuildings, cabins, and forts. He also very kindly invited us back to the barn to check out things that would interest my 10 year old.
Mike and Betsy are incredibly gracious, and we’re really looking forward to going back. It was peaceful and beautiful, and the kindness and good humor of the hosts really enhanced our stay.

This was our first Hipcamp experience so we didn't know what to expect. It exceeded all of our expectations. Mike and Betty were amazing hosts. They welcomed us to their land and explained the amenities. We camped next to the pond, and enjoyed the view as well as the peace and quiet. We walked around the property, hunted for agates, swam in the pond, and tasted/purchased some wine. The location near Lake Mille Lacs is perfect. Also, there's a gas station and small town close by with a grocery store. It's the perfect balance of privacy and convenience. Highly recommend!

Mike and Betty were incredibly congenial hosts during our one-night stay at their vineyard/farm. Communication with Mike was fast and clear, and he even came and met us upon arrival at the site. He gave us the rundown of the farm and when Betty arrived shortly after, they offered a private wine tasting, even though it was outside of prescribed hours. It was very interesting hearing the story of the vineyards, grapes and structures at the farm.

After the tasting, he directed us to a level spot next to the pond and under a large oak tree. We were able to swim and fish right outside our door! There was a fire ring right next to the site with a large bundle of thinly-cut wood that we were free to use.

Thanks again Mike and Betty for the stay at your vineyard. We hope to come again soon!

Honestly this was a phenomenal camping experience. The vineyard and surrounding land were exceptionally well maintained and Mike and Betty were very gracious hosts. My girlfriend and I were looking for a nice private campsite near lake Mille Lacs and that's exactly what we got.

We set up our tent near the pond behind the vineyard which was the perfect spot because it's close to a good swimming area as well as the outhouse and boathouse. There is also a fire ring, grill grate and firewood right next to the spot so it has everything you need.

My girlfriend and I took advantage of the winery that Mike and Betty have set up as well. We did a wine tasting and ended up getting three bottles of their excellent wine one of which went perfectly with the dinner we made on the grill later.

Overall, Mike and Betty were excellent hosts and their vineyard/winery were very nice. We had a great time talking with them and they went out of their way to make our stay a wonderful experience. Next time we come back we'll be sure to bring some friends.
