Get away from the lakefront crowds! This private, woodland cabin has all the modern conveniences of home while offering northwoods peace and quiet. Surrounded by forests and near the Sturgeon Lake chain, hours of outdoor activities await you. If you'd rather spend your time indoors, this comfy cabin has you covered with everything you need for a romantic getaway, a family vacation, or a weekend with friends.
Our cabin is a wonderful retreat for all seasons. Whether you're looking to relax indoors or go on a wilderness adventure, you are welcome here. Enjoy a private, five acre property that borders George Washington State Forest. There are two bedrooms with comfy wooden beds, including a queen with double-thick mattress in the master bedroom and a full/twin bunk-bed for kids or extra guests to ensure everyone gets a great night's sleep. A queen-sized futon and pull-out loveseat in the common space can sleep a few more. For the outdoorsperson, there's a bird-watching bench, a bags/cornhole set, and nearby trails through the pines. Listen to the frogs croaking in the evening as you sit around the fire pit. When the sun sets, you'll see a beautiful sky full of stars, and sometimes even the northern lights.
We have a chain of five lakes nearby, connected by streams and canals. McCarthy Beach State Park is a ten-minute drive away, with a swimming beach, modern changing facilities, and canoe rental. On a rainy day, you can pick out a game or a puzzle to work on at the game table, watch a DVD on the cozy couch, or cook a gourmet meal in our fully equipped kitchen. No matter the season, your vacation can be as relaxing or action-packed as you like.
We are available via phone, text, and e-mail to answer questions and give recommendations about the area. During your stay, you'll have plenty of privacy on our 5.5 acre plot. We may be residing in the guest house, a short distance away from the main house, though we'll leave you to your privacy unless you need our assistance.
Our northwoods location means we coexist with wildlife on the property. We provide bug spray and do regular preventative maintenance, but do be prepared to encounter some critters on the grounds and once in a while in the house-- part of the joy of living in the wild! We'll provide a handy visitor's guide to animals you may encounter. If you have questions about this, do drop us a message!
Side Lake is a thriving community with lots of charm. McCarthy Beach State Park, with swimming, canoe rental, and other activities, is four miles away. There are five lakes nearby, all with some public access, as well as hundreds of acres of state forest, so you can fish, boat, and hike to your heart's content. There are a couple cute (and tasty!) restaurants in town, as well as a gas station and a general store that sells ice cream and basic supplies. Twenty minutes away is the town of Hibbing, with lots of dining options, as well as beautiful Historic Hibbing, the breathtaking Hull-Rust Mine View, and the Greyhound Bus Museum. Chisolm, Grand Rapids, and Virginia, also nearby, offer museums, shopping, recreation, and entertainment.
