Look. Listen. Breathe. Feel.
Willoughby Island is a serene oasis (your own private island!) offering primitive camping. Experience nature as it was in the beginning: sparkling, unspoiled and full of life.
Listen to the waves and to the songs of the red-winged blackbird, chick-a-dee, robin, pileated wood pecker and bald eagle. Watch for deer, rabbits, turtles, frogs, ducks, geese and heron.
A fire ring is setup on south end of island near the electrical pole. The campsite is clear and protected from the wind by birch, poplar, cedar, tamarack and white pine trees.
You can get to Willoughby Island by taking the Detour ferry across the St Mary's River to Drummond Island. The entrance to our property is 8 miles from the ferry. Once you pass through the gate onto our property, you'll drive across a private causeway to get to Willoughby Island.
Willoughby Island and Drummond Island features hiking, biking, kayaking, fishing, boating, a 27-hole golf course, one of largest closed loop trail systems for off road ATV/ORV exploration in the United States, birding, shipwreck diving, cross country skiing, rare and beautiful "moon rock" at the Maxton Plains Alvar, spectacular nightly sunsets and a zillion starts in a sky streaked with occasional Northern Lights.
The whole island (Willoughby) is yours, so you can have as much or as little human interaction as you'd like. Groceries, hardware, firewood, restaurants, bars, gas station and gifts are 2.5 miles away. Be sure to load up with supplies because Willoughby Island has no running water, toilets or showers.
