State of Michigan-It is required for the Host to be on site. I would also like all my hip campers to know a few more details before they book here, though I try to give you a lot of privacy, I do check-in on you. I try to keep this at a minimum, approx. once a day. I love hearing about your adventures and also want to make sure that you have everything you need/want to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. I find that this leads to a wonderful interaction getting to minimally know you and also for any constructive advice on what future hip campers may desire in the future. I also, keep a pretty good eye on the property for safety reasons, as this is located in the Hiawatha National Forest and the winds can start suddenly which does lead to concerns with any fires that may have not been extinguished.
Moderately Strict on Check in and Check out times : )
Check in is at noon. If possible, I request that you arrive no later than 6:00-7:00 pm. This is also for safety reasons. (if you need to arrive later please let me know in advance, there is limited light in the area. Thank you.)
Check out is 11:00 a.m. (If you need an extra hour, you can request it-but I do plan my personal life around this time, please respect the check in and check out hours-thank you so much.) Also, if you need help, I am always willing to help set-up or tear down camp.
Please be aware that the Check-In process will take approximately 20-30 minutes. I try to limit this and speak rather quickly so that you can get to your site and set-up. I do request that everyone read the description instead of reading just the reviews as the property changes almost on a daily basis. This is our home and we are constantly making improvements. : )
From time to time, depending on the circumstance, I may need to change your site. (I have only done this 2 times this year-though I have had campers change their site also) I try not to do this but sometimes I have a better site and do offer it. If you have a group of 4-Site #1 is absolutely better for this. If this is booked, then I do offer you a site that has absolutely no amenities (except for a very sm. fire pit) If I had to change your site and your not happy with the new site, you may request a partial refund.
***RUSTIC, RUSTIC, RUSTIC- (Our Definition of Rustic: Limited Amenities. We are not a campground. You will be in the woods-there may be bugs, mosquitos, flies, bears, coyotes, wolves, rabbits, fox, sand cranes, birds, wild turkeys etc. )
You also may experience, depending on the the time of the year, rain, snow, wind, cool temperatures-side-by-sides, chainsaws, boats on the private lake across the street, 4 wheelers-in the surrounding area etc. (Beyond our control)
We do Not use any chemicals on the lawn or in the woods, please respect the property and don't spray any chemicals w/out prior approval. (bug spray is allowed on your person/clothing)
We have a dog "Roscoe" and a chicken "Miss Clara" (She free-ranges, if this is a concern, please let us know) In the near future we will be getting many more animals & livestock.
Recently, we had acquired our puppy 6 months ago. He is a puppy and we are in the "training" phase. We have had a couple issues with him (because of jealousy we believe-barking and going potty on a campers tent) we are coming up with a strategy to limit his involvement near campers. If there is a issue I will absolutely make sure that he is not near your site.
This is a friendly reminder that "Magical Woods" is NOT a campground, we are not set up like a campground w/ landscaping and some of the other amenities that a campground offers. I am happy to be a part of your adventure! Hip-campers will always be like family to me!
We do observe quiet hours, day & night! This is a very quiet area and sound is amplified here in the woods!
The people in the photos are other campers enjoying the property. Some of the photos are of the property and others are in the surrounding area. Please be patient with the on-going work that is being done on the property (I will try not to do any work, during your stay.)

Listing is very exaggerated. Her house is next to the site, too close. No privacy. Such a small area to put your tents. Do not get fooled by this listing repeatedly stating its 44 acres. You are practically on top of the host. She advertised trails and a creek that you can explore but the water is more of a swamp and there are no trails. We have very experienced campers in our group & we’ve done a camping trip for the last 7 years. Anita & her boyfriend kept mentioning that all of their neighbors were rude to her & that they want her Hipcamp shut down because they think only people who own property should enjoy the land. I thought it was kind of strange she talked about it so much but I just chalked it up to bad experiences between her & them. The first night we had a speaker playing country & Anita popped over again to tell us she loved the music. We thanked & and she kind of looked around like she was waiting for more of a conversation. Earlier she had brought out her guest book & asked if everyone could pass it around before we left for the weekend. While reading past entries, I noticed a lot of the people said Anita came & drank wine & beer with them. Later Anita came out to see if all the campers had arrived because she had to lock the gate up. I honestly thought that was extremely strange. I know for sure it wasn’t written on the listing! Anita told each camper that she met that she was “420 friendly,” everyone politely told her that we wouldn’t be doing that. It could be worth mentioning that 2 from our group were law enforcement officers & the youngest person was me, at 25 years old. At 11:30 Anita came back out & said that it was too loud for her & her grandkids. We were all very apologetic. Just goes to show how close she is to you... We all felt bad & were super apologetic and shut the music off right away. The next morning Anita came out & apologized for coming out the night before & said her neighbors make everything very difficult for her & she doesn’t want to be shut down. Understandable! Sat. we had a kayak tour from 2-530pm & got back by 7. We hung by the fire with our music. This time it was on shuffle, not just country. Anita’s BF, Art, came out & said that a neighbor called & complained about noise. He expressed his anger about how nosy they were & said the neighbors just had a large party 4 days before were louder. He continued to say that they’re trying to take their Hipcamp out. We all agreed that it’s ridiculous how the neighbors act. During this convo one camper from our group noticed that Art was back on our site & asked if the music needed to be turned down. Art said yeah, just a few notches. So the music got turned down. About 10 minutes later things took a drastic change. Anita was in her pajamas running to the site. She was kind of slurring her words & said y’all have to get the F off of my property. Y’all are disrespectful & I don’t want you here, I don’t like this type of music. Everyone was like what’s going on?! She said Art just came out & said turn the music off and you turned it up. Pack your s#!t & get off my property. We apologized & said he said turn it down, not off, we thought quiet hours were @10:30pm. She said this is my property I make the rules! My neighbors can hear everything! My sister said Anita, I walked out to the gate after Art left & I couldn’t hear a thing from out there on the road. Your neighbors are crazy! Anita said I don’t F-ing care what you can hear. I don’t want to hear this type of shit. This ain’t country & this ain’t no party place! We said Anita look around no one is “partying.” Every single one of us is sober. It’s off now. We didn’t know, we thought 10:30pm quiet time. She seemed to calm down for a moment & said you can stay. She walked back to her area & one of the officers from our group said we needed to leave ASAP and find another camp because she was acting unstable. 10 minutes later, Anita came out, new outfit, & realizes we’re leaving & starts getting upset. She’s swearing & name calling. My sister said please stop and she responded “you shut your f$&@ing mouth.” Things got escalated so I began to record her. I said we felt more comfortable with police presence. I think she was abusing some sort of substance whether it was alcohol or narcotics, it got scary very fast & I wasn’t taking chances! To make matters worse the cell service was bad. Anita kept walking back out from her house as we packed up looking for a fight, yelling y’all are the worst hipcampers. She pointed at my sister & said y’all could have stayed but that B!&ch got smart with me. As we packed up they walked along the property in a circle. I’m not sure if this was to intimidate us but I announced that I was taking photos of the property as proof that we didn’t leave any mess or cause any damage.
What a nice woodsy property! The firepit is amazing, and there is even a tire swing in the woods. Anita was super friendly on the phone and made sure that everything was set to go. This is a great tent camping location, only 10 minutes to Munising and Pictured Rocks. We spent the day exploring the beaches on Lake Superior!
My trip was amazing in Munising. Anita Flowers is a very nice host and was great with responding to my questions about her beautiful property.
Where the property was there was almost no light pollution so star gaising was a very good experience and i was able to see a bunch of shooting stars while watching the sky. the port-o-potty she had on site was very clean and you could tell she has it serviced every time someone stays. There was no shower but I just bought a portable shower and pop up tent for privacy to fix that problem. But the two days I was there was a very enjoyable experience and the property is literally ten minutes from Pictured rock cruises and all the Hiking trails in Munising.
I would recommend this site to anyone that wants to enjoy Munising Michigan. She also told me that she would be adding trails to her property in the near future so i will definitely be visiting in the future.
I have stayed here it's a gorgeous piece of property . Secluded by woods, and Nature. It has water, electric hook ups. Great trails, and a huge fire pit, to kick back and enjoy a nice bonfire. I would recommend this place to anyone. There are all kinds of Scenic sites in the Area to visit.
The area is absolutely beautiful. There is so much to see and do. There are countless hiking trails, caves to explore, lakes and rivers to swim, and adventures to be had! The property itself is relaxing, comfortable, and secluded. It boasts a giant fireplace that is perfect to cozy up to in the evenings. Wildlife is never that far away, so if you're quiet, you might get to spot a fox, a deer, a moose, or even a bear! If you're looking for a peaceful retreat and magical experience, I would absolutely recommend that you check this place out!
This is a Very private and beautiful property located close to many waterfalls and Pictured rocks. Loved seeing the 8 turkey walk right through the campsite and up the road and the wild life really comes out at night. Beautiful stars at night as well with NO man made light to take away from the beauty of it.
Will be returning again
Magical Woods was ready. Anita is a kind and respectful host with lots of knowledge about the area. We were up here for the weekend with some friends and loved the privacy of the campsite. It’s about a 30 minute drive to pictured rocks (which is pretty and scenic so not too bad!). There is a small river that meanders through the property. Just a heads up that the lake right across the street is private! Porta-potty was very clean. The fire pit is huge and amazing and the site in general is just so large that it’s great for lots of activities—including frisbee! Would definitely go back.
