The peace i was looking for
My husband and I spent three incredible days here at Llama Meadows.
We’re on a cross country road trip and over the course of our trip we’ve spent most of our time at campsites and a few days in hotels. Campgrounds have been extremely busy since it’s summer and we wanted peace and quiet.
The peace and quiet we’d been wanting we found at Betty and Marty’s (the owners of Llama Meadows.) Our campsite was nice and clean with everything we could possibly need. There’s a nice wooden outdoor shower and an outhouse that very nicely maintained. I’ll admit, I’m generally only comfortable using flushing toilets but using the outhouse was not a problem because it’s so nicely maintained.
When we arrived at the farm, we were greeted by Betty and Marty, they are just such kind and loving people. It was so nice to have met them.
A day before leaving we asked if they could show us around their property. Marty gave us a tour of their garden, and also a tour of their home they build totally by themselves.
Our stay was perfect ✨ so much more than we were expecting.
Such a beautiful place to stay - the llamas, gardens, and views are spectacular. Marty, Betty and Marley were so welcoming and lovely. The farm is close to Frankfort, Beulah, and Sleeping Bear Dunes. We will certainly be back here to stay again!
Fun on the eco farm!!
Betty is a most attentive host. She and Marty even went out and bought a grill grate for the communal firepit when I inquired if they had one. Marty had plenty of wood and starter for the fire. Fun to explore their grounds (labyrinth, mowed paths, garden). Outdoor heated shower and pit toilet made it like glamping!! We were the only 2 there at the time and we had plenty of space to spread out.
Llama meadows didn't disappoint!
Staying at Llama Meadows was great! The sites are spacious, and the property is beautiful. There's walking trails all across the 16 acres. Betty, Marty, and Marley worked extremely hard to make sure everything was going well. Definitely a great place to stay, easy to get to all the towns and different beaches.
Betty and Marty were excellent hosts! We really enjoyed getting to know the other campers around the campfire in the evening. We even spent a very peaceful day just hanging out at our campsite reading and making art. And I loved the outdoor shower! The location is very near a whole bunch of beautiful lakes and interesting things to do! Such and peaceful welcoming place, We would definitely recommend it.
A hidden gem for sure!
Llama meadows is exactly the sort of gem you hope to find when you stop looking for a spot at a crowded State Forest campground and try something new.
Betty and Marty really care about their campers having a great experience. It's rustic camping with just the right touches to take the edges off - a hand washing station (super helpful in these times of COVID), plenty of fresh water, a well-sited clothesline, and a wonderful, private, heated outdoor shower. They were always interested in the little things that could be improved to make the experience - an over-fire grill for cooking was added just before our arrival on the suggestion of previous campers, for instance.
The site is in a great location, a short drive to Frankfort (with a dog-friendly off-leash beach!) and close to Sleeping Bear Dunes and some of the area's best beaches. If you're passing through the area and want to spend a few days exploring, this is absolutely the place to make your base camp.
The campsites are adjacent (though Betty and Marty have plans to expand out into their property a bit and one campsite is detached from the other three), but it is far less crowded than the other options (state forest, 60's-era "family camgrounds", etc.).
This was our first foray into Hipcamp and really loved it. Well priced, safe, clean, great location, great people, and super easy to reserve. Highly, highly recommend.
Loved staying here. Host were amazing. Will be returning. Only down side is the community fire ring. Would recommend bringing something to cook on if planning to bringing your own food. No fire pit at any of campsites. Loved the land. Sites were plenty big enough.
What a magical place! Our site faced a beautiful meadow with little trails carved in. Everything was incredibly clean and kept up. The outhouse smelled, only of wood shavings, which was a pleasant surprise! The shower was nicer than any campground shower i have ever been in. The inside reminded me of an outdoor sauna. So roomy, well designed and water was nice and warm. The gardens here are so beautiful and peaceful, i didnt want to leave! We brought our dog, Moksha who found a favorite playmate in the host's dog, Jazzy Bear! They raced around together in the old llama pasture and it brought such joy, watching them! But the best thing about this place was the hosts; Betty and Marty! Such genuinely beautiful people! We felt as though we made new friends there! We will surely be back! Best. First experience hip camping we could've asked for!
Great family stay!
We have two boys, ages 6 and 4, and we enjoyed our family stay at Llama Meadows so much! Our favorite part was the outdoor shower that could fit our whole family after swimming at the beach. We spent time hiking the trails in the farm’s meadow and gazing at stars. It was so peaceful, quiet and clean. Betty and Marty are amazing hosts with a beautiful vision for having guests enjoy their beautiful property. The location was ideal and here are some of our favorites spots we visited:
-Hill Top Soda Shoppe - had the best homemade ice cream!
-Stormcloud Brewery - beer cheese soup, pizza and beer
-Crescent Bakery - donuts and soft pretzels
-Betsie River And Bay fishing
-cycling around Crystal Lake
-Tubing down Platte River
We will definitely be visiting again in the future.
