Nestled along the shores of East Grand Traverse Bay, our Bayside Base Camp is the perfect spot to stay as you explore the wonders of Northern Michigan. We offer one tent site in the back of our property with full access to our indoor bathroom. Guests also have access to a fire pit, a large table to set up your camp stove or jet boil, as well as the ability to hang your own hammock among our trees.

We are steps away from bay access for swimming, fishing, boating, kayaking, paddle boarding and whatever other water hobbies you may have! There is access to two beautiful trails within a short walking distance from your camp. We are happy to provide directions as long as you promise to take care of them and leave no trace. The Northern Michigan community is incredibly active and values the Leave No Trace principles.

In addition to the natural beauty within walking distance from your site, the area has countless trails, paths and parks to explore. We are happy to provide additional recommendations based on your interests through email or upon your arrival.

Bayside Base Camp is located 15 minutes from Downtown Traverse City, a short 45 minute drive from Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes, 50 minutes from Leland and 15 minutes from Old Mission Peninsula.

Guests will be responsible for disposing of their trash items in the designated trash bin on site. There is one parking spot in our driveway and you will need to walk back to your tent site. There is a home within view of your site, but it is a seldomly used vacation home. The walk will take less than one minute to get back to your tent site from the driveway.

We are beyond excited to share our property with you and welcome you to our little slice of paradise in Northern Michigan.

Heather and her wife were very kind and did well in making us feel comfortable at their home. I was pleased with the entire experience, and we enjoyed our stay. This is a pretty cool idea, and I’m such a nice area. I would love to live lakeside as they do!! I appreciate the willingness of the hosts, to share the opportunity to allow that for a get away. Much obliged!! Thanks so much for this!

Perfect little spot for our weekend plans! Heather was welcoming and explained everything upon arrival. She was even accommodating with our boat/trailer. Would definitely stay again!

Heather’s place was the perfect spot for a last minute trip up north. We had a new puppy with us and wanted to get him acclimated to those surroundings before a longer trip. Heather was super helpful in providing recommendations for close places to adventure. The access to their bathroom was a great amenity and they even provided some disinfectant wipes to make sure surfaces stay Covid free.

Wonderful place to stay near traverse city. The shed in the backyard gives you some privacy from the house. As it was in the 90s the day I stayed, it was nice to be able to walk down to the lake for a swim. Heather was very welcoming and gave some great recommendations nearby.

We stayed here for two nights in the beginning of August, on the first leg of our trip up to the UP & we couldn't recommend this place more!
Heather was super welcoming & had great recommendations for hikes and breweries. We did the Pyramid Point hike while we were there. Great views and dog friendly!
The bathroom was super clean. They provided hand soap, sunscreen, band aids, etc. Very accommodating to covid times. Wear a mask in the house. Use provided wipes to sanitize all touched surfaces on your way out. They made sure to let us know when the bathroom would be occupied in the mornings the night before.
The backyard is a 1 minute walk from the public beach/boat put in area. We took several swims during our stay & got to take the kayaks out! The backyard was nicely secluded with no neighboring dogs (ours tagged along and was able to stay on the quieter side thanks to this detail). The house is in a quiet neighborhood. It seems most of the houses around are used as vacation homes, including one of the immediate neighbors. We caught it on a weekend when they weren't there and it felt very private!
It felt like next level camping & you cant beat a 1 min walk to a neighborhood beach for chats with locals & an afternoon dip in the water.

What a great spot just on the outskirts of town. With easy access to Traverse City + Elk Rapids, this is a great centralized basecamp in a lakefront neighborhood. With trails, the beach + a boat launch just an easy walk down the road, you’ll be happy to have options without the hassle of driving.

Heather + Christy have great local recommendations + couldn’t be more gracious hosts. Your camp spot is tucked behind the shed, mostly secluded with the exception of a mostly vacant vacation home next door. The bathroom is shared but the back door entrance allows for privacy from the main house. Bring your camp kitchen - there’s a spot to prep + cook on by camp. It wouldn’t hurt to bring a table cloth as the kitchen area is rustic. My favorite part of the day was making coffee + walking down to the beach.

This is a beautiful area to explore + you’ll be happy to have a comfortable spot to nestle down at the end of your day.

Great for morning coffee - and remember to bring a stove to cook!Outdoor food prep areaA small creek runs behind the tent clearingCamp clearing

Heather was really nice and welcoming. She was easy to communicate with and gave lots of tips on the surroundings.
The place was really clean. It is perfect for a tent not really for a camper van. The tiny beach is really close but quite crowded.

Heather and Christy were very warm and welcoming!! Awesome hosts!! The tables for prepping were super helpful. There was compost bin super accessible for food waste as well as trash and recycling. Small lot so not a long walk to car. We could view the moon from inside our tent through the trees above. Very pretty to wake up to. There was more street noise than anticipated and visibility from two neighbors, but did not detract from our trip much. Just be aware depending on your site expectations. We enjoyed our stay!!
