Our farm is set in an idyllic riverside landscape located just minutes from the beautiful Montague Bookmill and a short bike ride from lakes and rivers for swimming.

The property abutts the Connecticut River, features forests, pastures, apple and pear orchard and our very own honeybee farm.

It is a secluded and quiet spot that is private, and located at the end of a dead end road. There is a train nearby, and you will occasionally hear it passing rhythmically in the night.

Nearby are a number of fun outdoor activities including the Montague Bookmill, Mt Toby for hiking, the Sawmill river for swims and Montague Ledges for climbing adventures.

On site we have a fire pit, fresh (seasonal) fruit, fresh honey right from our farm and a relaxed atmosphere for unwinding in the wild.

A few miles away are bucolic towns, including Turners Falls, Amherst, Northampton and Easthampton which all make for fun day trips, sight seeing, shopping and delicious local eats.

PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A WORKING APIARY - THERE ARE HONEYBEES ON SITE NOT FAR FROM THE CAMPSITE!  IF YOU HAVE CONCERNS ABOUT THIS, PLEASE RECONSIDER YOUR INQUIRY... THANK YOU!

Back home from a delightful weekend camping at Lovely Montague Retreat. The large open meadow surrounded by woods is beautiful and being close to the bees, who went about their business and ignored us humans, added to the character of this lovely place.

This was a perfect camping "retreat" during this Covid time. My tent was pitched in a beautiful meadow for three nights with nearby (few miles) access to boat launches on the Connecticut River. Lots of birdsong and an eagle flew over the meadow several times. There was also the sound from freight trains which was AOK with me, being that I'm a rail fan.
Site Host Brian shared local knowledge which was helpful.

We had a great and relaxing time at the site. It was the perfect mix of open field and wooded areas. The picnic table near the fire pit is perfect for preparing meals and also has dry storage. We loved having fires each night with a full sky of stars to look up to. Brian was super quick to answer questions and gave us some recommendations for a hike with our dog. Would love to stay here again! Also, the honey is delicious! Thanks

We had a great time at this site! The site is very large and spacious and pretty. On a clear night, I would imagine you could see a ton of stars. The bees were no issue for us. We saw a few, but they did not bother us. The host was very responsive and easy to communicate with. They stopped by a few times to attend to the bees, but besides that and a couple runs of the train, the site feels like you are enveloped in a remote forest. There is some hiking at the site, but we decided to drive to some of the local sites for fishing and hiking and were very pleased. Overall, we had a great experience and everything was as we desired and expected.

This retreat more than held up to its name-sake. Brian was a perfect host and provided all of the amenities we needed for a seamless and relaxing stay. We were fortunate to also partake in a hive tour and to come away with some sublime raw floral honey from the Retreat’s onsite apiary. We look forward to returning soon for another stay!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Lovely Montague Retreat. Brian was a gracious host and the camp site had everything we needed for a peaceful and relaxing stay. We were fortunate to experience a hive tour of Brian’s apiary and left with two half gallons of sublime raw floral honey. We look forward to returning again soon. Thank you, Brian for an amazing camping experience!!

The site is down in a well-mown field near a tree -- good shade -- with some forested area to the side and behind, where there was plenty of deadfall for firewood. Views of the sky were absolutely gorgeous, both at sunset and at night. I was fortunate to be there on a moonless and more or less cloudless night. The bee yard is quite close (you could hear the humming) and the hosts did come down to do some work with the hives, but the bees for the most part stayed to themselves. Solidly low-mosquito, too. Good access to hiking in a number of places within a half-hour drive. Nighttime was reasonably quiet, but there is a train track and rail yard nearby, and there were occasional alarming banging noises as trains would start & stop and the individual cars would slam each other down the line. After the first night I had figured out what I was hearing, and then it was easily ignored.

They have only two sites on the farm, and they are quite far from one another. You see the other people but you get plenty of privacy. Brian is super nice.

The bees are close to the camping spot, but they didn't really bother us. I do suggest bringing bug spray though, because there are quite a few flies and mosquitoes.

You get a lot of space to camp, we pitched our tent all the way at the back of the field, and it was very private there.

One drawback is the train, which can be loud, but that seems to be variable. On Friday night there seemed to be some unloading going on, so it took us a while to fall asleep. On Saturday night, we barely heard anything.

Each site has a table with handy dry storage, and a fire pit. You can buy fire wood from the farm as well as delicious honey. No bathrooms or running water on site (there is a hose at the farm though), so come prepared!

The field with the campsite is picturesque, completely hidden from the road, and felt very private. A big maple tree provides shade over the picnic table for much of the day. You can hear trains coming and going from the train yard a mile or so away, but its far enough that we found it to be a fairly calming background noise. Brian was fast to respond to our questions (including recommending a local swimming spot) and stopped by to check in and see if we needed anything before a foretasted rain storm.
