You will be camping in a semi private campsite area at the end of our meadow. You can pick one of three areas depending on your preference. One is mostly wooded and secluded. The other two are at the end of the meadow and you can see our home and neighbors in the distance. We do not have a bathroom, so you must have  a self-contained vehicle.

We have 2 Nigeria Dwarf goats, a few chickens and ducks all of whom are quite friendly and love leafy snacks. The property has extensive flower and vegetable gardens, wild berries, mulberry trees, black walnut trees and chances for wildlife sightings to include herons, birds of all types, deer, opossum, raccoon, rabbits and foxes. There is a historic mortise and tenon constructed barn on site and our home built in 1895. We are very convenient to the highway which means you can hear traffic occasionally depending on the weather. We are less than 10 minutes to the Appalachian Trail, C&O Canal, Potomac River, Harper's Ferry, Brunswick MD and 15 minutes from downtown Frederick MD. There are multiple civil war battlefields in the area, as well as many work vineyards, meaderies, cideries, traditional potters and trademen. Hiking, biking, rafting, and wildlife opportunities abound as well as taking in history.

Staying here was such a serene adventure! From the adorable goats to the mischevious ducks and too-kind hosts, camping here was so much fun. From the moment we arrived, Joe was a gracious host, giving us a tour of his property, pointing out the best camping spots and guiding us through his garden (which he encouraged us on more than one occasion to help ourselves to!) The firepit was clean, with fresh firewood stacked nearby and a bucket of water at the ready. Sleeping here, we felt safe and were even able to hear a great horned owl late into the night. I would recommend this campsite in a heartbeat for anyone who wants a smaller scale camping experience not too far from civilization, surrounded by farm animals.

Our little campsite, not far from the firepit.Joe gave us fresh eggs in the morning!I fell in love with his friendly goats!

We stayed here in early October and loved everything about our stay. The site was clean and flat - with multiple spots to set up a tent depending on how much privacy you'd like. There are goats, chickens, and ducks nearby that are great company - and are quiet during the night.

A small table, a chair, and a bench were available for us to use, which was plenty for 2 people. We stayed for two nights and had plenty of wood for evening fires. Best surprise - the property was as bug-free as the outdoors can get! I usually get eaten alived by mosquitos and other biting buddies, but I escaped with zero bites without needing to use bug repellent.

Joe and his family were lovely and welcoming as well - they gave us a tour of the place when we first arrived (as night was falling!) and offered us everything from their sprawling garden.

Other than Harpers Ferry which is nearby, there are tons of wineries about 20-30 minutes south if that's your thing, and a lot of nearby hiking. Brunswick is a cute small town that's about 5 minutes away, and downtown Fredrick (20ish min away) is always a nice time

All in all, 10/10 stay, would stay again.

Joe was there on arrival with a warm welcome and tour of his organic farm and I got to meet his goats, chickens and ducks.

My first impression was that the campsite was not as private and secluded as I had hoped, but it turned out that the neighbors did not have direct sight lines and there were several areas to pitch a tent, from open lawn next to the fire pit to wooded sites completely hidden from view. There was distant noise from the highway but the sounds of nature were all around.

There were woods bordering one side of the farm with paths, a lovely creek, pond and pasture. The birds were everywhere and diverse. I saw a woodpecker, swifts, jays and many others.

I spent hours at the fire pit, cooking and just being still. It poured that night and the sound of rain on the tent was calming and peaceful.

My visit to Joe’s farm gave me the precious gift of stepping outside my normal hectic life and I plan to return soon.
