This place was awesome! The tent was clean and Land Rover was super cool! Edwin, the host was very nice and helpful. The dogs roamed around and were very friendly and made great company. Would stay again!

First Hipcamp experience! Cool truck, big open field, really cool, quiet farm, friendly owner (turns out my husband knew him from a long-ago job!), and the best canine company!
A few things -

Location -
The Rover was off behind the house in a field. You are not near ANYBODY. You can see houses and barns from the location, but no one is right up next to your site.
You ARE on a small working farm. Horses, chickens, dogs and what looked like a couple dozen sheep. So occasionally, you are going to get the smells of a farm. I grew up on one and Edwin's made me feel happy and homey. The place is a combo of idyllic and eclectic. I loved it.

Dogs
Edwin has three really wonderful dogs who have the run of the farm and they hung with us all night as far as I can tell. If you are really NOT a dog person, look elsewhere but If you are iffy around dogs, be assured, these dogs are really really people-friendly. I was sad to say goodbye to them.

Shade - Got there around 3 and it was sunny and hot. The Land Rover was situated right along a tree line at the edge of the open field but the trees are not over the vehicle. Bring some sort of shade tarp with you for sitting under. We tied one to the side, threw up some poles, a string of lights and sat there for hours and hours.
We were able to drive right up to the Rover so we did not have to lug stuff.

Tent
Situated on top of the Land Rover, narrow ladder on side of vehicle to get up to it. Be fit enough to do that. Tent was clean and has a mattress incorporated into it so no need for a blowup or sleep mats. Mattress has a plastic cover that is cleanable with disinfectant. Hub and I were close but tent has big windows with screens. We needed our sleeping bag in the middle of summer!

Wildlife
We did NOT experience a ton of bugs. We did have some bug spray on and had a couple of citronella candles with us but Edwin has some off in the Rover if you forget yours.
Birds all around, peeper frog sounds from the trees at night. If active peepers are the sort of thing to interrupt your sleep, bring earplugs. I happen to love them and they gave the rural farm setting a touch of the woodland sound.
Rover was right next to a Mimosa tree covered in fuzzy pinl flowers - and TONS of butterflies!

Amenities
There is a VERY clean portopot at the gateway to the field. You cross the field from the car to get to it so it is not 10 yards away but that was not a problem.
We brought our camp chairs but turns out Edwin had two in the Rover.
There was also a basket of stuff in the Rover for campers to use - a light, some disinfectant, bug spray, and I forget what else. Important stuff but pretty great that he included that for use in case you forget it.
There is a fire ring too but we didn't use it. Too hot.

Edwin gave us the nickel tour of his really cool house/property and said to come knock if we needed anything.

In the area
We did take a short ride (literally 5 min) to have a beer and fries outside at a local taphouse with a large, outdoor seating area. Nice array of beers. Looked like basic taphouse foods.
Boordy Vineyards and Ladew Topiary Gardens are not far from the location. We hit Ladew for a picnic before going to the farm. both are bike-able if you are not a stranger to your bike.

As this place is about a half hour from my home, it made for an easy and enjoyable rural getaway.

Hope this is helpful to others.

Hub and Rover, looking out over the field. Where I am standing, I am close to the tree line. You can see Edwin's doggie in the shadow of the vehicle. And you can see where we put up a sun shade at the back, right next to the big back door on the truck. This is the ladder to the top. Narrow but gets you where you need to be when dinner and beverages are done and the big starry sky is out (pee first tho). Female Tiger Swallowtail on Mimosa tree at site. Me making a stupid face trying to look rugged next to Edwin's Landrover (complete with kickin ram skull on front).

Never saw the owner; convinced the three dogs learned how to use Hipcamp.

Seriously though, Edwin had everything set up prior to our arrival. The site and portable toilet were extremely clean, and he left extra supplies in the Land Rover in case we forgot anything (the bug spray came in handy but did not save my ankles). The three dogs (Belle, Stiglitz and Tucker) were extremely well behaved and Tucker even guarded the camp site overnight.

Site is close enough to stores and restaurants if needed, but far enough away that any traffic noise is not noticeable.

Highly recommended!

My wife and I are campers so we enjoyed this. Mattress was comfortable. Getting up and down might be a challenge for those who need to do that several times a night but not an issue for us. Dogs were friendly and fun, but were patrolling to chase away deer throughout the night. So nice to rise in the am to see horses 20 feet away and the dogs. Very pretty farm. Owner seemed very nice. VERY cool land rover and sleeping arrangement.

The car was really cool, and provided plenty of space for sitting and storage (also got a lot of nice photos). It was a really fun and unique experience to get to sleep on top of it! The dogs are really friendly and the sheep are pretty cute too. The night sky is super clear and perfect for stargazing.

My husband and I are avid campers/backpackers and we loved our glamping experience on top of the Land Rover. While searching for a weekend getaway, the description “loaner border collies” caught my attention. If you LOVE dogs and being outdoors, this is for you. Edwin’s 3 pups were the perfect campsite companions, especially Stieglitz (who will greet you immediately and eagerly show you to the campground). A portable bathroom is available on site for use. Aside from the dogs, another highlight was simply roasting s’mores by the campfire and watching all the lightening bugs. I typically get eaten alive by mosquitos, but I came away with zero bug bites. If you’re lucky, you may catch Belle herding the sheep on the adjacent field. A mattress is provided inside the tent, so all you need are your sleeping bags/pillows. We recommend the nearby Taco Tolteca for dinner (patio seating was nice, especially during these crazy times). Edwin was very kind, and gave us plenty of privacy!

If you kind find Tucker, he’s probably in the shade under the car. Sheep Safari in Classic Land RoverMattress is provided, just bring your sleeping bag and pillows! The trunk of the car offers a few supplies like a canopy shelter, two folding chairs, hand sanitizer, and bug spray.

Edwin was a great host and has a beautiful property. The dogs were amazing as well, Tucker ended up sleeping under the car and Stieglitz hung out for most of the night. It ended up raining later on in the night however the tent held up great and we had no issues at all.

We loved Edwin’s farm so much that we had to go back a second time this summer. The Land Rover was super cool, and comfortable for sleeping. The sheep dogs are friendly and kept us company at night. Edwin was accommodating when we had a last minute change and was a kind host, as always. We look forward to returning again soon!
