The Upper Farm is set on 125 rugged acres in southern Maine. Pitch your tent under the cover of mature hardwoods alongside a babbling brook, in fields blanketed by the Milky Way, or in solitude atop secluded ledges. Your neighbors are deer, fox, and other native animals. The farm borders conservation land and miles of trails connecting Bradbury Mountain State Park to Pineland. Canoe or kayak at nearby Run Around Pond, a meandering waterway that is home to fish, birds, beavers and other wildlife. Pownal provides easy access to the western Maine mountains and coast, a variety of cultural communities, four-season sports, and niche retail centers. You may choose to get your hands dirty right on the farm--pitching in with chores, gardening and animal husbandry. Take a class on fiber arts, learn how to scale and saw logs, even take part in an archaeological clinic led by local experts. Fresh food, grown and raised on the farm, can be purchased in-season.
