Athena was a great host! She was quick to respond to questions, and met with us to help upon arrival. She made us feel right at home. It is just a quick trip to Portland where we spent most our time exploring (Athena guided us to some of her favorite spots). Loved the farm fresh eggs, back yard fire pit and chickens. Would book again in the future.
Athena was great! Very welcoming, friendly and the coffee in the morning was a great touch. Loved seeing all the animals as well!
Since it was cold, we ended up camping in the back of our SUV in the driveway rather than using the campsite. However, we did use the fire ring for a campfire in the back and took a walk to the campsites which was a really nice area behind the house and through some woods that felt secluded.
A comfortable and easy going place to stay - we felt very welcome and at peace on the land. We chose to camp in the forest, it was a lovely wooded spot and it felt private/secluded. I would mention that there is quite a bit of ambient road noise, which was not a deterrent for us as we were just staying one night, but it was loud enough that I would make a note of that for future visitors. I appreciated the tour Athena gave us when we arrived, as well as the generous offer for chicken eggs and herbs/plants from the garden. As another special note, we had to hike our gear back to the spot with the help of a heavy duty wagon they had available for us. This was no issue for us, but I mention this for anyone who is looking to be in the woods And camp out of their car/van etc or who would not be able to move their gear that far. All in all, we were happy with this spot and felt it was good option for a short trip to Portland the next day.
"haven" couldn't be more spot on
We've been traveling on the road for months now, and one of the things that gets rough is the lack of community around you. Athena was helpful and so welcoming it felt like we were visiting longtime friends rather then complete strangers. We enjoyed her company so much we even joined her in the evening for drinks and a chat around the communal camp fire. If socializing isn't your thing, the tent sites are secluded and out of sight from the house. The camp sites have their own private fire pit as well. Athena provided us with an outdoor wagon to help us get all our gear to the sites in one trip, and it's a short walk through her garden and along a lush trail. If you are an animal lover, you are in luck as she has no shortage of chickens, turkeys, ducks, roosters sheep and dogs on the property. There are hammocks to lounge in, and plenty of communal seating out front to keep cool in the evening. If you're looking for some farm fresh eggs in the morning, she has a stand in front where she keeps them for sale. She also provides bundles of firewood for sale in case you don't have your own. All in all, it was a such a great experience and a perfect location for exploring nearby Portland, or keeping yourself local with plenty of hiking and swimming holes, rope swings and bridge jumping less than a five minute drive away.
