“Gert” is a 1968 completely renovated camper set in a lovely field overlooking the Benjamin River in Brooklin. The field is above a boatyard that specializes in wooden boats. She is ideal for a single or couple, with a state of the art composting toilet, solar shower (there is no hot water in this old girl!), mini fridge, and gas 3 burner stove. She has a queen sized bed, a microwave, and all the kitchen pans and utensils you would need. There is a picnic table, grill, fire pit, and hammock and two kayaks you can launch from the site. This property is about an hour from Acadia National Park, Mount Desert Island and Bar Harbor, Asticou Gardens, and many beaches and sights. It makes a perfect base for your day trips and a peaceful retreat where fireflies and stars abound. There is plenty to do right here, though. Check out the “Things to Do in the Area” page of the Brooklin Inn! https://www.thebrooklininn.com/explore Mid May and June are great times to book - you will be here before the crowds and it’s warmer than it used to be usually. Plus the mosquitoes haven’t gotten the message yet and you can enjoy sitting outside in the evening. But the summer is amazing here on the coast, as always. Watch the boats come in and out of the river from the dock or your campsite. Join them in the kayaks! September and early October are also wonderful times to visit the coast of Maine! We offer a 15% discount from now until October 1st, so come on over. The crowds at Acadia have largely departed, the water is calm, the weather is great, and everything is still open. Summer is definitely not the only time to see Maine - many people actually prefer after Labor Day when it is quieter if you are out and about. So come see us - have a campfire, hike, paddle, and watch the stars. We close for the season in October and reopen in May. Glamp It Up With Gert
What a lovely site in the woods, with a sweet boats-on-the-water view! Quiet, peaceful, soothing, relaxing yet close to attractions and sites in the area. Perfect for a retreat, hideaway, getaway. Jean was easy to communicate with and quick to respond; directions into the site were clear and concise. Highly recommended for an off-the-grid feel yet with standard amenities.

Gert is great! It's a comfy space with all the things needed to feel right at home. Jean gave terrific instructions and was really nice. I felt comfortable and at home as a lone traveler. And the view - Wow! It was lovely to just sit and look out at the water.

Gert is up to snuff
My boyfriend and I had an amazing experience in the old Gert. It's perfect for two people. It stayed warm overnight, even in the colder autumn weather, and included all the kitchen amenities we needed. Jean was so understanding and super kind, very lovely lady to talk to. Overall, perfect camping get away for a weekend. Definitely coming back next year :)

Awesome stay in a vintage camper
Jean's camper is on a beautiful piece of land - we loved being so close to the water and having access to the host's two kayaks was a treat. We kayaked under the nearby bridge and went down the river a ways; you could even watch sunset from the harbor in the kayaks where you'll find many boats floating/docked. You can tell Jean put a lot of care into decorating Gert - we really enjoyed all of the little vintage touches. A great stay overall, which allowed us to visit Acadia National Park and Schoodic Peninsula to cross off some bucket list hikes.

Fantastic! What a great spot. Gert and our wonderful hosts couldnt have been better! They definitely had it stocked with the staples. Coffee maker, dishes, glasses and mugs, silverware, salt and pepper, towels, soap, etc., sun shower, stove, sink, microwave, fire pit, outdoor table and chairs - so go ahead and glamp it up with Gert!
